Mud, I never heard of that and I did a lot of research into it. It's not in the KNMG/KNMP guidelines for euthanasia. More options but not Pento injected.
My SCEN doctor told me this. Up until, I believe, 2017 most doctors used a muscle relaxer (Rocuronium) to induce the patient into a deep coma leading to anoxemia. However, predicting the time of death is hard using these types of medicine. It sometimes could take hours, something family members had a hard time dealing with.
When they 'only' assisted with suicide, they did provide N. in oral form and found that N. is more reliable when it comes to making predictions.
So a discussion came to be, which led to doctors being able to decide for themselves (after conversing with patient and family members of course.)
This is what I was told. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong because a SCEN doctor provided me with incorrect information.
