"My mother-in-law used to be a surgeon. She told me about a patient they had back in the '90s. He died because of holding in a sneeze. Turns out he had an aneurysm in his brain that popped at that moment."

The man who just wouldn't die

Rasputin-1290x1904

Some people may have 9 lives, The Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin had 27. Rasputin was not a popular man and a group of noble conspirators were sent to end his life. Rasputin refused drink and food laced with poison only to be shot four times, beaten, and flung into a freezing river. An autopsy revealed he died of hypothermia(although the bullet in his forehead didn't hurt either). 😏

SUICIDE BY CHAINSAW

1746296797458

A man cut off his own head with a chainsaw in a carefully thought out suicide because he was "irrationally opposed" to leaving his repossessed home, an inquest heard today.

David Phyall, 50, had consumed a small quantity of alcohol but no drugs, and arranged the chainsaw in such a way as to facilitate his suicide.

His elderly parents John and Jean Phyall raised the alarm when they could not contact their son in his ground floor housing association flat in Bishopstoke, Hampshire, on 5 July this year.

Police were called and they broke in asking the parents to stay outside.

Sergeant Mark Carter said he found Mr Phyall in the lounge with blood spattering the walls, floor and a cabinet.

Central Hampshire deputy coroner Simon Burge said to the officer: "It must have been a huge shock to you."

Sgt Carter replied: "In some ways it was sir."

The hearing heard that the block where Mr Phyall had his flat was to be demolished and despite great efforts from his housing association, he had refused 11 offers of alternative accommodation.

Eventually it had gone to court to repossess the property.

At the time of his death Mr Phyall, who had suffered from mental illness and attempted suicide before, was the only person living in the 1960s block with the rest of the properties boarded up.

Recording a verdict of suicide, Mr Burge said First Wessex Housing Group had done all they could to help Mr Phyall but he was "irrationally opposed to moving".

"In the 15 years I have been sitting as a deputy coroner, this is the most bizarre case I can recall," Mr Burge said.

"It is an appalling way to take one's life but that is what happened in this case.

"He thought through how he was going to commit suicide very carefully. He went to a great deal of trouble.

"I think he did it to draw attention to the injustice of his situation." 🫣 🤨 🥵

King Pyrrhus

Illustration of Pyrrhus II in ancient armor and helmet, facing right. Vertical lines fill the background

King Pyrrhus of Epirus was known for his military campaigns against Rome (giving rise to the term "Pyrrhic victory"), but he met an unforeseen demise in 272 BC. During a street battle in Argos, as he engaged in combat, an elderly woman threw a roof tile from a rooftop that smacked Pyrrhus right atop his head. No, he didn't die from being hit by a roof tile — but when he looked up to see where it came from, he was stunned by an enemy soldier who fatally stabbed him. Sounds like, in the game of life, Pyrrhus lost the battle AND the war. 🥴🥵😬

The Duke Of Clarence

George-Plantagenet.jpg

Born in 1449, George Plantagenet, the duke of Clarence, was the brother of King Edward IV. After the king had refused permission for the duke to marry, George began to plot against him. Edward, wise to his brother's treachery, had the duke arrested and charged with treason.

He was brought before Parliament and accused of preparing for rebellion. Both houses of Parliament passed a bill approving his execution at the Tower of London. There were lots of ways he could have died. Popular execution methods at the time included hanging, drawing, and quartering as well as burning at the stake.

But George Plantagenet was a royal. Perhaps that is why he was allowed to choose the manner of his own death. His choice was somewhat unusual. He is said to have chosen to be drowned in a vat of his favorite wine.

Well, if you've got to go . . . 🙄🥴😖

"WOMAN AWAKES IN COFFIN, PANICS AND DIES OF HEART ATTACK"
Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov—no, I don't know how to pronounce it, either, and probably like you, my eyes just sort of skip over names that complicated—was a Russian woman whom doctors had declared dead in June of 2012. But during an open-casket wake, she awoke screaming in panic. She was rushed to a local hospital, where physicians declared she'd died of a heart attack. 🤐😬🤪

Cops stumbled upon a horrific murder-suicide when they arrived at a Massachusetts home to find a man cutting his own leg with a power saw.

Police in Plymouth, Mass. had been called to the house late Monday by concerned relatives.

When they opened the door, they witnessed Keith Lincoln pick up a circular saw and cut into one of his legs causing "serious injury," said District attorney Timothy Cruz.

As they continued inside, they found a dead woman and two dead dogs, police said.

Lincoln, 49, was rushed to a hospital, where he died from blood loss.

It was not immediately clear how the woman died, but police are investigating it as a murder-suicide.

Authorities said they would have to rely on dental records to confirm the woman's identity because of the condition of her body, The Boston Globe reported.

Officials did not know how the dogs died.

Neighbors said Lincoln lived with his wife, Jettie, and that the couple had moved from Vermont last year. 🫣😮😫

In 1847, Robert Liston, a pioneering surgeon, accidentally amputated his patient's testicles along with his leg during a high-speed amputation. Both the patient and an assisting doctor died from subsequent infections, and a bystander reportedly died of shock. 🤨🫢😆
