I feel like my life would have felt easier to end if I didn't believe in God. Yet I do.

I have tried to look for any evidence disproving the existence of God, but I can't seem to find any indisputable evidence that proves that there is no god.

At the same time I feel like shit since even trying to find reasons to not believe in god is likely some kind of sin against the virtue of religion.

Yeah, that's the thing about religion. You cannot disprove G-d's existence, or prove it either. It's something you just need to come to terms with for yourself. đź«‚

I have tried to look for any evidence disproving the existence of God, but I can't seem to find any indisputable evidence that proves that there is no god.

Can you find any indisputable evidence that there is a God?

Personally, I'm on the fence about it. I'd actually also prefer to be confident there isn't a God because- looking at the world- I can't see how its creator could be good.

My own personal journey began by questioning religion though. There surely is evidence for the big bang and evolution of species. That surely disproves the creation stories we've heard. I don't believe women came from Adam's rib bone.

If those stories aren't true- how much of organised religion is? Even if there is a God- are they necessarily how they've been described?

Plus- just the timing seems absurd to me. Dinosaurs existed on this earth for over 150 milion years. Compare that to two million years that humans began evolving. Why isn't there evidence of dinosaurs worshipping a God? Didn't God care that much what they got up to? Why wipe them out too? Surely an asteroid hurtled at the earth could be considered an act of God! Why wasn't there a prophet Jesus dinosaur? Kind of cruel to wipe out a species too. Why? Were they too boring? That seems like a long time for the earth to have no religion though. Maybe not in God terms but still. Why even bother with dinosaurs if humans were always going to be God's pet project? We surely do have evidence they existed for a very long time before us.

What frustrates me is religion has an answer for everything. 'The bible isn't meant to be taken literally. You shouldn't even be questioning God- you'll be punished for that.' I even read that some people believe dinosaur bones were planted here by the devil to mislead us. It's almost like listening to politicians and all their bizarre excuses.

I suppose too- I think it very much matches our nature and ego to make up stories to explain stuff we don't understand. We believed sun Gods made the sun rise each day- before we figured out we were on a rotating planet orbiting it.

We also have such colossal egos and need for power. And- what better way than saying- we are a privelaged race. We deserve to have dominion over every living thing here. The one thing we have no power over- death- we can even surpass- so long as we believe. It also gives people already in power the means to control the masses. Don't steal from me, murder me, shag my wife, shirk your chores. Don't question me as a representative of God. You'll be punished/ end up in hell if you do. Religion has been a very poweful tool in subduing people, getting money from them etc. Even if it's all true- it has enabled the most powerful (and sometimes corrupt) to stay that way. So- it makes sense to me it could simply be a case of Chinese whispers- stories passed down and embellished.

I'm perfectly prepared to believe there was a man called Jesus but then- what proves they were the son of God? What a few people claimed to see? People who adore and admire others- especially in cult like settings I'm sure attribute them with divine powers.

Approaching it from that angle, you'd have to disprove every hypothetical way God could exist.
That's why non-believers and scientists tend to approach it from the other direction. You only need a few good observations, to prove that something exists.
