I think it's more the music industry changed and isn't putting out soft rock. After the 70's it started dying, to me. I watch those "hits from 197....." videos and I know practically all of them and I was a hard rock --> metal guy even as a kid. And those songs were good songs even if not my cup of tea to the point that bands cover them (not necessarily love songs but older songs).
