I keep seeing all these news stories in my town about an intruder or a carjacker shot in the head. Instead of saying they died it says they are in critical condition. Just making me really worried that this won't kill me.

I have a 9mm and also worried a shot to the head might not kill quickly. If you saw that video of the Kenosha shootings one of the guys too an AR-15 round to the head and was still conscious for a bit.

I was thinking of maybe shooting towards the heart. I think if you hit it you'd be unconscious pretty quickly. But if you miss you could just shoot again whereas if shooting into the head probably one shot is all you'll get.

Temple shot is a horrendous idea. You will become a vegetable. You should do more research about where to aim. Also I had a 9mm and decided not to use it because it is just not as effective as other options.

Gun is my method too... But by shotgun.. (12 ga) Not too concerned I'll miss any vitals with that.

As TiredOfCoping said don't do a temple shot, that's just asking for trouble and basically justifying this thread's title. Point through the mouth towards the centre between the ears around about or from the side of the head at the ear around eye height again into the centre.

I have a 9 and will more than likely use it. I have hollow points. The mega thread is a good read. I would have thought temple too but it isn't. I'm gonna do the behind the ear to go for the stem. I'm confident with my use in hand guns that it will work

Reasonable to be scared, the risks are high. Be sure to prepare thoroughly and get as much info as you can so that the chance of failing is as low as you can practically make it.

Where did you get this figure? I always thought it was a much higher success rate. LostAllHope has the lethality rate for firearm to the head at 97-99%.

Nonetheless, I'm super terrified of this method, to be honest. I've fantasized about it a lot, but I don't think I could ever do it. I'm a bloody liberal snowflake and just the thought of holding a gun gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Okay... but you didn't actually answer my question, which was about sourcing your information. As I said before, I know nothing about guns so I'm apt to believe you, since you sound like you know what you're talking about. But I'd still like to see a source, because the number you presented is at odds with what I've understood for some time.

This study also suggests that the odds of survival are closer to 1 in 100. For firearm suicides overall, the numbers do seem to range from as low as 85% in this Harvard article to around 90% in most other articles I came across. This meshes with your 1 in 9 statement. However, the lethality rate seems to go up much more when it involves shots to the head, which is what the OP was talking about.

Another factor is the type of bullet and type of gun being used. Again, I know nothing of guns, so I can't offer any wisdom on how that affects the numbers. If the figures you're asserting are related to the specific details provided in the OP, please specify as well. Thanks!

yes it's not. it's started that it should be above ear or through mouth i beileve. the op can find this info in the book suicide and suicide methods by geo stone or the mega thread.

The rate of surviving that is significantly higher. It is the worst area to aim in terms of effectiveness with a gun. It goes from like 99% to less than 85% chances of death.

Unless maybe you used a shotgun with like buckshot but still I would do head over torso any day as there's way too much area to miss with a heart. Far more chances of ending up alive on life support for days etc.

Yep, right below temple or above ear or roof of mouth is what is reported on many of the resources on here.

From my research, putting the gun in a mouth and aiming for the brainstem is the most lethal. A friend of mine did that in the bathtub to minimize the cleanup him roommates had to do once they found him. It was very considerate.

whatever you do just don't shoot the bottom of your chin up because alot of times that blows off the face and leaves the brain alive
