TL;DR: Welfare check in UK after ordering from DMC. Didn't go too poorly besides having to tell my parents. Expect one soon, maybe even TODAY, if you've ordered from DMC before. Fuck OFCOM and the BBC for this poxy investigation, because it will turn out horribly for those they're trying to "check up on." I imagine there are a lot of these coming through, so if necessary, feel free to remove, mods.
Sorry moderators, I gave a bullshitty reason as to why I wanted to join. I actually wanted to share this message, I don't exactly aim on sticking around for long on this forum, I just thought posting this would be relevant.
To preface:
* I have posted on this forum under the name "hematomatema" before, as well as another name that I can't really remember LOL. I'm giving this name because I've seen a lot of suspicions being roused at the influx of new accounts mentioning it, although I think this is due to the number of lurkers on these forums who don't have accounts but simply read up on the current information and go through with it all. Anyways, that's my old account, not going to log in on it because I can't be fucked, and so on. Just know that I have used this forum before.
*I became less suicidal over time and never went through with my method(s) (the first was concentrated nicotine, but it burnt too much, and the next was SN - as mentioned, never went fully through with it.)
* I don't really have any proof I can provide (why would I take pictures of a police officer in my lounge?) so you'll have to take this with a grain of salt if you still don't believe the UK is doing welfare checks.
* I purchased in maybe...October, November, of last year?
Now that this is all out of the way, here's what happened:
Police car, single officer, shows up at 8AM. Knocks on door, my dogs start barking. I think it's my mum back, open door, promptly shit pants as anyone does when there is a probably 6'3ish police officer stood at your door. Seemed chill though, asked if we could chat. I say yes, and, much like the naive moron I am, invite him through front door. He says he'll be quick though so I believe it.
Pants continue to be shat until he mentions the words '[SN].' I'm not actually all that worried about it now because I poured it all down the toilet after my little taste test of it followed by decreased suicidality and I knew that they obviously weren't going to arrest me based on ownership so I admitted it all, mentioned I had disposed of it.
Following questions were...pretty typical. "Do you still feel suicidal?" Nope, not really. "Are you aware of hotlines like Samaritans or (I forget but he mentioned another one)?" Yurp. "Do your parents know?" No (but given that you waltzed in at 8AM while my dad was asleep and when my mum was driving back, they sure as hell will know, and it'll have to be from me...)
It was basically just stuff like that. I think he grasped that I wasn't fantastically pleased at the fact that I would now have to explain what SN was, where I bought it, etc., and after the questioning, had a small chat about how many dogs I had, then he went on his way. Was no longer than 5 minutes.
Then I had to explain to my parents. Fun fucking stuff.
I'll give my opinions on this. Despite the fact that it went about as well as a welfare check for a suicide that nearly happened could have gone, I still feel sick to my stomach. It is nothing but insensitive to use police officers to poke and prod into one of the most delicate aspects of a person just because they have purchased products in the past that might aid in suicide. Bear in mind, this was close to, if not, half a year ago. I didn't even REMEMBER that I had ordered SN, and then, to hear someone bring it up all that time later, in honestly a little bit of a menacing fashion (IT'S A POLICE OFFICER AT YOUR DOOR)...I don't know man, it just made me uncomfortable to a level I didn't know I could feel.
And then there's the fact that that cocks up other people's lives too. Again, I am living with my PARENTS. I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT SN IS. One of them doesn't know what one of these SN thingimabobs is, and the other is a bit of a quasi-informed moron and doesn't know the difference between nitrates and nitrites (thinking I'm manufacturing explosives in my bedroom like a suburban amateur Kacynzski) before Googling it...and then thinking that it can't kill you because it's an antidote for cyanide poisoning. Battle of the minds right here. By that logic, methylene blue can't kill you for the same reason (what even is a serotonin syndrome?) but whatever, tangential at this point.
Rant over, I guess. Moral(?) of the story, expect welfare checks in the UK, and from what I've seen with a cursory glance over recent posts, in Canada. Fun, fun, fun. Fuck the UK. In fact, given the crackdown on DMC, I would highly expect users of this forum in the UK to be identified and have welfare checks carried out over the next few months, regardless of participation in services provided by DMC. I have severe doubts for anyone's safety from a welfare check if they are not taking as many precautions as humanly possible in anonymising themselves
