A while back, I asked for some advice on how to ask around about SN here (Jordan), and here's how I went about it:

I messaged a chemicals store on Facebook and just straight up asked if they had SN; they said yes and asked if I wanted it in tablets or strips (I said tablets). Then they told me to call the store for confirmation, which I did. On the phone call, I acted a bit dumb and asked if they had "that pickling chemical called SN." The man told me to send him the name of the chemical on Whatsapp, and he'll call me again when he's confirmed that he can sell it to me. I did right away, and after 7 excruciating hours of waiting, he called me back and said: "This chemical is illegal." I just said, "Okay, thanks," and we ended the call. I was fantasizing the whole day about how this would be my method, but alas.

I'm unsure how many people will benefit from this information, but I figured I should share anyway.

I think you'd better try somewhere else, ask for the name of the compound "sodium nitrite" and not "SN" It is also preferable to mention the grade, AR, LR...etc.. You can say you are a student and need a lab sample for research, I don't think it's illegal.

I did ask for sodium nitrite; I didn't call it SN on the phone. The man flat out told me it's an illegal chemical, so I don't know how I'd benefit from asking again.

Try another chemical store then. It's not illegal in Jordan.

Do you think if you didn't play dumb and were straightforward you would've gotten a different result?

How do you know? And why are you so sure it's not illegal?
There are no laws or regulations in Jordan that say it is an illegal substance, I am from the Middle East too and can get it legally. Good luck anyway.
