Hi, Sodium nitrite and heatwave,

I keep my sodium nitrite closed in a bag in a cupboard in the dark.
I bought it in October 2024. It's very hot in my apartment (heatwave).

Is there any risk of it losing its effectiveness?

I know it needs to be protected from light, humidity, and heat.

Thank you.

The only information I could find says nitrite converts to nitrate at 320 degrees Celsius. At this temperature it oxidizes from the heat. The only way to surely know is to test it though.

Hm I remember a early post on this, worried about it..
I mean I'M not sure, but people said that it's not a big problem.

have you a cellar ? I was thinking about this. same problem.
I put it in the "coldest" room lol. but can put it in the cellar aswell..
for the moment I will leave it in this other room...

Same problem here. I know the maximum ideal temperature to keep it would be 25C but I couldn't find much about what happens when it's stored above. I do remember reading somewhere that the temperature itself wouldn't be the problem, moreso that it will be easier for the sn to absorb moisture from the air in higher temperatures. I don't remember the source I read this from (or how reliable that site is) though.
So best we can do is try to keep it as sealed and dry as posssible I guess.
