Can't sleep, so I'm doing some more research on SN with the help of metoclopramide. Several people have posted about having side effects from the meto with the 48 hour regime. Google lists some of the possibilities:

  • feeling restless;
  • feeling drowsy or tired;
  • lack of energy;
  • nausea, vomiting;
  • headache, confusion; or.
  • sleep problems (insomnia)
I know every person is different and reacts differently. For those of you who have taken meto, did you have any side effects? Did you have no side effects? Any experience and knowledge you can contribute is so appreciated. Thank you!

So... I've had to take it several times in the past due to a medical condition I have. The longest I've been on it was a week straight, then I was able to switch back to Zofran, my regular nausea med.

I already suffer from most of those things, so it's impossible to tell if Meto caused any of them. But I can say it did not make them worse, and it stopped my vomiting, which was the point of taking it to begin with.

Many of those side effects aren't accurate. The most common symptoms are increased anxiety, anger, and uncontrollabke shaking.

See this is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to be prepared for any possibility when I take it. Best case scenario I have no side effects. Worst case scenario I know what to look out for so I don't freak out. Thank you and @k75 for your input!

Sure thing man! I'm not sure where you got the side affect of nausea and vomiting, because it actually prevents that haha

...And that is why I asked on the forum haha. I want to hear people's actual experiences with it rather than some generated list that came up when I googled side effects of meto. Maybe it has the reverse effect on some people? I know that can happen with some medications.

Hey who pissed in your Cheerios? There's no need to be a dick, I was getting a lot of contradictory information. Why can't I ask for people's personal experiences? It's helpful for me and maybe for others who are looking to see what people who have taken meto experienced.

That's actually a side effect they list on the paperwork from the pharmacy I got. My Zofran says the same thing. Either it's a blanket warning they just tack onto everything or maybe it depends on how much you take.

Another possible side effect I've seen is... suicidal thoughts and urges. Dun-dun-duuuun! LOL

I'm not sure that @JimFord99 meant that in a mean way, but I see how you could've taken it that way

Breast swelling and lactation (personal experience) usually after using it for a while however. Tired/sleepy, shaky if taken in larger doses 30-40mg

One friend said the Meto make her sick, so she used Domperidone/Motilium instead.

BTW, Jim Ford was giving you a compliment, Lonely C. "That is great work by the way. Well done you. Very informative thread you started." He was not being sarcastic or mean!

I have tried the 48 hour regimen using Primperan and experienced no side effects whatsoever. Even after taking the final 30mg dose.

I apologize to @JimFord99, I was in a shitty mood and I took it as a sarcastic remark. I didn't see it as a compliment. Hard to see intentions over text sometimes. Thank you for your input everyone, it makes me feel a little less worried. My ctb date is coming up soon and I've been really stressed about making sure things go right.

Yes, you did. No bad feelings, buddy. I understand. Don't worry about it. It is all good between us. I blame myself now for over reacting. Was not meant like this.

I bet, body biochemistry is so complex. It completely blows me away that one person can react in a totally different way than someone else. I really want to take a dose just to see how I react myself. The side effects people have mentioned here seem totally manageable if not beneficial (suicidal thoughts haha check). Tiredness also a nice bonus. I already plan on countering the potential headache from SN with a big dose of ibuprofen.

I need to stop freaking out. It's going to be fine.

Just a small friendly warning, I was also planning on taking a large (1000mg) dose of ibuprofen about 45 min before the SN, but after doing some more reading and talking it over with some people on here, I've decided to go with acetaminophen instead; ibuprofen could possibly irritate your stomach, whereas acetaminophen seems safer as far as not contributing to any nausea or gastric effects. Of course, you know your body best, so ibuprofen may be better for you. Just wanted to share, just in case.

You know what, I'm glad you said that. I forgot ibuprofen can be irritating to the stomach. I'll take acetaminophen instead, excedrin is usually my go to. The less I put my poor stomach through the better!

This is sort of a problem I encounter at the moment. I am on high blood pressure meds, and I wonder what effects the have in combination with SN and meto. Can't really ask a doctor.

Hard to say for the SN specifically, but have you looked at a drug interactions checker for meto and your blood pressure medication?

Here's one that I know a lot of people use:

It makes me feel restless and very strange. I have found others better, but you may have no problems. I don't think anything will stop you throwing up an acetaminophen overdose though. I did it once and woke up. I was extremely ill and spent three weeks in the hospital being told I was most likely going to die. I recovered, but those three weeks were physically very hard. It's not a peaceful way to go.

Side effects seems shit for meto and put me off. Sensitive to meds. Maybe just some baking soda for the stomach acidity only and just take more sn if puked the first batch??

Definitely not overdosing on acetaminophen. Not about that suffering! Acetaminophen is only going to be a regular dose just for potential headache from SN or meto. Sorry you went through that, that sounds so awful.

That seems like a really extreme reaction. Not a great way to find out you're allergic to a medication. I guess no time is really a great time actually. I'm still debating a test dose. I think I can handle the more common side effects, but definitely not any sort of allergic reaction. Are you sensitive to any other meds? I wonder if sensitivity to one can help determine if you'll be sensitive to another...
Can i take meto if I'm on abilify?

I popped it into the handy drug interaction checker @SprocketFiend linked above and it does seem to have major interactions. IANAD but some of those interactions seem pretty severe to the point where I don't know if I'd risk it. The words can be permanent scare me in that description.

Possibly I try a small dose first, just to make sure that there are no bad side effects affecting me. I did have a read at that drug interaction checker site, some of it is a bit worrying. Thanks for pointing this out.
