For the last couple days I thought I was starting to feel better overall, but actually my SI became delayed untill the evening/night time for some reason. During the day I'm feeling completely fine but once the night rolls around all of my SI just comes out.

Thinking about how useless and worthless I am, the desire to ctb, the usuall stuff. Sh urges only at night. Been trying to counter it with alcohol for the third day in a row but it's not helping anymore. Still wondering what could cause this shift in thoughts.

Has this happened to anyone else?

all my symptoms get worse at night. even during my psychotic breaks, my psychotic symptoms got worse at night. I'm not sure what causes it but you're not alone that night just makes things worse.

not that the day is much better xD

Nope, I'm the same. I actually logged them and my most extreme SI moods are around 3am and 6am. I don't know how or why. Don't think it has to do with sleep deprivation or anything, I woke up at 4am (fell asleep at 8pm), 6am rolls around and BAM. Right on cue.

I get that too. Rest of the day I'm fine with it but night every couple days it kicks in.

My theory is that at night we have nothing to focus on. During the day we have work, TV, games, or even just going to the store

At night when we try to sleep we have nothing to distract ourselves and we are all alone with our thoughts

It's normal, I think it's called sun downing, it's often for dementia patients and dogs, to become more off or weird during the night, the same could probably be assumed for depression, the day has a lot of noise keeping our mind busy, the night is quiet, leaving nothing but thoughts

Most people here use SI to mean Survival Instinct. I assume you mean Suicidal Ideation?

My Suicidal Ideation hits me as soon as I wake up in the morning. It's worse then than ever. Just knowing I'm here to deal with another day of this insanity makes me want to CTB.

Talking about your feelings and trying to find comfort and validation is never stupid!

Yes, this is very very common and therefore one of the main reasons for insomnia: People having troubles to let their thoughts settle.

Usually, by the end of the day you will be exhausted and obviously tired. Therefore, your body tries to wind down and just rest but our brains are funny little things and often like to take that time of 'mindfulness' to let our thoughts spiral. When your body comes to rest, your brain is often as active as can, processing all the things that recently happened. The exact same reason we have dreams; just our mind processing. :)

What can help with that is a better 'sleep hygiene'. That just means a routine you do every night that forms into a habit and signals your body and especially your brain: 'hey, it is time to rest now' and therefore help calm your thoughts.

A sleep routine can contain things like:

- Changing into your pyjamas
- making yourself a nice cup of tea
- listening to music
- reading a book
- meditate

And just the simplest things like:

- brushing your teeth
- washing your face
- saying goodnight to your pets

Those are things that you can start doing in a certain order to let your body and mind know that it is time to rest now.

I like to use that function on my phone called 'wind down'. After setting your preferred time of actually going to bed and sleep, you can set a timer for a amount of time before that, when 'wind down' will start. You get a reminder that it has now reached the time for your mind and body to calm down, it will activate the Bluelight filter and put your phone on 'do not disturb'. It is a nice feature to remind yourself to now wind down yourself and be at peace to have a peaceful night.

I hope these are some tips that might help you stop spiralling during the night time!

Thank you so much, ill try to implement some of the tips that you gave me. I don't know if they will help but I'm grateful for your advice nonetheless :heart:
