So I was talking to a guy and he said YES.
His reasoning was that:-

1)Happy people with amazing future will also inevitably die one day and not remember any of this life experience. So pointless.

So death is safe for literally everybody(no suffering,no desires, completely immune to evil and suffering)

Honestly, people like that just reiterate to me why I don't believe in the Christian depiction of the afterlife.

"No suffering, no desires" is not something that seems enjoyable to me. Sure, get rid of my suffering, but inevitably I will feel hurt. That's part of having emotions. Pure safety is boring.

Sounds to me that he hates his life and is just projecting due to jealousy—I say that as someone with a life that's definitely not "safe" or "successful"

No? Sorry, that doesn't make sense to me. Happy people with amazing futures should enjoy their lives and try to live as long as possible.

The happy people I know truly enjoy life. Truly. Which is possible. There are many people that can't begin to conceive what we're going through.

How do any of us know what kind of future either we or others are going to have? Maybe some people have better prospects. Maybe a person can look to have a great life in comparison to others but ultimately- we aren't them. Things can't be all that rosey if they are contemplating suicide!

Where does choice come into it? The whole idea that someone 'shouldn't' do it means they 'shouldn't' be allowed to choose. So- some people have the right to choose and others don't? Based on what other people judge their prospects to be? What makes the people making the judgement so knowledgable? Do they know what it's like to live as that person? Do they have a crystal ball?

That's not to say I don't think there 'should' be some gatekeeping with suicide. Or to say it isn't worth offering people support to find an alternative. But, to insist some people don't have the right to make the choice themselves seems off.

Idk, in my opinion people who ask that kinda question aren't looking at it from the happy person's perspective. Like if someone asks 'should happy people quit while they're ahead', they don't understand why people don't quit while they're ahead to begin with. Those people don't see an end to their happiness. They feel prepped to anticipate the worst because they know it'll come eventually. They believe they have the bandwidth to cope and still enjoy the good parts of life, and that enthusiasm is enough. Which is wonderful for them. But if a person is resilient enough to look at the miserable shit in life and say 'I can make it through anything', the idea of killing themselves would never even almost occur to them.

So, if a person who claims to be happy and on top of the world says 'I want to ctb at my earliest convenience', that means they're not actually happy. They're at a bare minimum anxious as hell and trying to avoid what they deem to be the inevitable because it's all they can think about.
