Please don't do it, it is really not 100% sure method and can end badly.

Name one method that is 100% safe and can't end badly.

I've heard putting the barrel in the mouth aiming up about 45° hits the brain stem which puts a quick end to life. Read about it here and a former friend of mine had a friend who studied medicine, and she told her that is also the best method to shoot oneself.

Though I don't know how easy it is to put a shotgun into your mouth since the barrel is rather long and it could get difficult to pull the trigger.

You could just buy a cheap hacksaw and saw off the barrel. I once tried to put one of my father's double barrel 12 bores in my mouth (just for a giggle) but being a short arse I couldn't reach the trigger. A bit of string and a screw eye fixed this however.

If I ever get a gun I would just shoot myself while laying down on some train tracks with the train about a minute or 30 seconds away in case it jams. I'm pretty sure it won't matter where you put it if you do that although it'd be better to do that with a handgun so it doesn't mess up the train's wheels running it over.

You're right, definitely not under the chin or the forehead. I'd still have to worry about 30 seconds of extreme pain until the train finished the job.

Provided the shot is fatal and you aim in the mouth with a shotgun, death should be instant. So no pain.

Simpson's Forensic Medicine is a textbook that has some relevant information. TW for some very graphic pictures. Not gonna link but you can find free copies online.

There's a section on how to recognize shotgun wounds after the fact. There aren't any statistics on real world instances but it discusses how location affects impact. It seems like its really not a concern of where on the skull you place the muzzle so much as it is ensuring that once you've placed it there, it stays put. Like if you get a shotgun shell anywhere into your skull, it's gonna explode. Very close to guaranteed. But if you try to aim for the temple and its a little out of reach and you slip, then it might graze your skull and not kill you.

So I don't think it's a one size fits all answer, I think it depends on the shotgun and your arms. Whatever you need to do to be sure that when you pull the trigger, the muzzle isn't sliding a centimeter to the side is fine. I read a story about a guy who built a rig with a pully system for his shotgun cause it was longer than his arms. Tied a string to it and everything, You have some flexibility is my point.

Also in regard to the book, the photos in there are pretty much the exact worst thing you'd imagine they are. Definitely all successes though.

shotgun has the highest chance to be fatal, though goddamn its messy. Saw a video of it and it looks like having your brain blow up from the inside, literally something you would see in a horror film

Hello, I've already used the firearms megathread but no one there was very helpful if I am being honest. They just made jokes. Where should I put the gun? In my mouth? To my temple? I already know to use slugs.
