Help Short suspension hanging

I am sure this has been discussed many times but apologies as I am new.
I have looked at Wiki and still don't fully understand!
How do you hang yourself from a door knob eg like it is reported that Kate Spade did.
It sounds simple but I don't understand the process??
Do you tie a scarf to a door knob and then try and tie it around your neck??

Hi @Lanternlight :-) you can use pretty much anything - scarf, belt, sheet, shoe laces. The idea is to use the door knob on the other side of the door so the item you use can't be so thick it won't go over the gap between the door and the frame xx

I don't get it. There is no scarf long enough to be tied on the other side and then thrown over. There wouldn't be enough material to tie around the neck then

what if you don't have the option to have it on the other side of the door? like if i did that it would be super obvious to family i live with. i sure wish i knew in detail how kate spade did it with a simple scarf!
