I prefer natural supplements but I usually don't have severe insomnia. I have been avoiding caffiene and I take melatonin, sometimes ashwaghanda or kava. I also have had success with valarian root.

Spend 24 hours not looking at your computer or phone. So many people that struggle with 'insomnia' are simply addicted to their devices. The blue light from phones and laptops can seriously effect your body clock.

So, I really want to follow this advice, I do. I've used a blue light filter on my computer and phone for years but not using them for 24 hours? And not stay in bed during the day? Those two things are the main way I get through the day. I mean, I'm still bored and depressed but I don't know how else to cope, honestly. I used to do other things but I can't recall what they are. Also I've become a shut-in and I no longer have friends irl. So if anyone has any tips on what I could do by my lonesome without electronics, it'd be much appreciated!

please get a notebook and write what bothers you on a daily basis and make changes around them, even if you have to suffer for a while making these changes, please do because i promise you, it gets better, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This is a good suggestion. I've been slacking on my journaling for months. I'll try getting back on that.

Do not get into bed unless you are heavily tired.
Do not think about it in the day, i know it's the only thing you can think of right now, but just force it.

This feels like an impossible challenge for me. I know I need to get out of bed but I'm always super tired and it's comfy here. I know I need to do better though.

Nutmeg. ~10g of ground nutmeg taken six hours before bedtime works wonders for me. It has the added benefit for me of producing a THC-like high, only without any paranoia or anxiety. A body high not so different from opiates occurs as well. I always drift off within about an hour and sleep deeply for 10-12 hours. Be aware though, some people have extremely bad reactions...my ex tried 3g and ended up in the ER with heart palpitations and was almost totally dissociated

Do you take it straight or mix it into hot water? I'm interested in trying this.

I mix it with hot water. It doesn't dissolve, you just have to gag down the suspended particles if you do it this way...a shot of lemon juice helps if the taste is a problem. But if you're only taking 10g, its not a bad idea to capsule it up. I'm just too lazy to do it, which is why I just mix with water and chug. I've heard of people just shoveling dry nutmeg powder in their mouth and washing it down, but I can't imagine how a person could be so hardcore lol. I would puke for sure.

I take powdered supplements like Gotu Kola, I use the toss and wash method. You take a mouthful of water or juice and then dump a small amount of powder on top then quickly swallow.

Whatever's easiest for you to get it down! Just keep in mind that it really does take at least 4 hours for the effects to start kicking in. I take it about 6 hours before bedtime, when I take it...I love the mild euphoria it brings and the feeling of just melting into the bed. Sometimes its so nice that I actually fight sleep to stay awake and savor it, lol. Good luck!

Did you have any vivid dreams? I have feared melatonin because of the claims of vivid realistic dreams. Maybe I should just try it and see what happens to me. Some people seem to love dreaming but for me it's horrible because all my dreams are PTSD nightmares or just downright weird and unsettling. A dreamless sleep would be amazing.
I've tried melatonin and it made my night terrors worse, obviously it's probably different for everyone but I'd never take them again

I tried nutmeg for the first time last night.
I didn't weigh it but based on previous powdered supplements doses I estimate I had about 8 grams of nutmeg. Six hours after I took it my body felt heavy and I had a strong urge to sleep. It was very hard to open my eyes in the morning.
It is now 21 hours after taking it and I still feel some sedative effects, my thinking is slowed more than I would like.
It wasn't a bad experience overall but I will probably half my dose for the next time I take it, 10 grams is too strong for me.

I think i will try nutmeg. Insomnia is a nightmare

I tried passionflower. It helped for a while then stopped.

Melatonin gives me migraines. So terrible. ;-;

For a while now i take muscle relaxants or anti nausea drugs. Both give me drowsiness but anti nausea drugs like Gravol seem to not be strong enough most of the time and muscle relaxants mess with my digestive system a lot so it sucks. Prescription also seems to work stronger.

It can definitely slow you down even the day after you take it. Nothing's perfect lol, this is more of a hail mary when nothing else is working and insomnia torture is at its worst. I usually have to go at least two nights with no sleep before I resort to it. Sorry it wasn't exactly what you wanted, but I'm glad you got the sedation and sleep you needed!

Migraines from melatonin are actually a big indicator that you took too much. Try a much smaller dose, its comes as small as 300 micrograms. With melatonin, less is definitely more.

I am on day three with zero sleep. I have taken unison every-night as well and nothing has helped. I will be going into night four of no sleep tonight if this goes on. Brain won't switch off and anxiety is insane. I feel all messed up. What helps you guys get sleep?
I was needing to take Ambien every day. Then, I tried waking up every day at 6. By late evening you'll be sleepy and you eventually get into a routine where it's not a problem to do.

I've switched Zopiclone/ Antihistamine / Painkillers for my head after sleepless night for a few months after stopping antidepressants. Now I sleep a little bit better. Sleepless nights are less and less present, even though my nights are still short.

Four months ago there was a sleepless night every other day, now it's once a week.
