Sorry the half-assed sketch.

Unfortunately, the doors in my house don't look, so I'll just have to hope the door won't open. Is it okay if I use a scarf, or should I buy a rope? The main problem i have is that I live with my family, so Im not sure when both of my parents will be out the house long enough. Im thinking of saying that im doing a project and they can't come into my room for a bit. Dumb idea?

I'm not sure that would work, unless it is a heavy dumbell.

The rope 100%. Hanging with things other than a rope is something you see in media but will have a high fail rate in real life. The dumbbell holding the rope isn't the worst idea, but you would need to make sure its a heavy one and that the rope is tied very securely to it and doesn't unravel/come undone. A chair or stool would also be better to stand on as its easier to knock over.

I appreciate the drawing though Lulu, I like when people do that cause its easier to get what people are trying to explain in terms of methods.

From what I've heard it is a bad idea to do this if your door doesn't/cant lock. I've seen a video of someone doing this and then SI causes them to open the door pretty soon after. You could probably install one but I'm not sure how

Mooring rope is designed to pull ships and is recommended on the various hanging threads. Kernmantle rope is also designed to hold people when it comes to rescue as long as its the low stretch kind
