My employee confessed that he attempted suicide and I feel like I should fire him

I have an assistant named "Cody" who has been with me for several years. He's such a good assistant that he drove 100 miles to pick up my wallet that I had left behind at a hotel. We were working late on a project last week and we started talking about personal stuff. I had told him that I once dated a girl who falsely accused me of rape and it was a stroke of luck that I wasn't charged. The DA had planned on charging me until they retired and her replacement decided not to charge me.
He said that last summer he attempted suicide. He bought some fentanyl pills and swallowed every pill. He even tested them and left a note. I couldn't believe it. He didn't say why he tried killing himself. I feel like I should fire him. He's obviously not stable and I feel like I'm responsible for his well being yet I can't babysit him. It's a responsibility that I don't want. I was happy not knowing about it.

So the rapist wants to fire the attempted ctber🤔 This is why I don't endulge with co-workers or get comfortable sharing personal information, it never ends well. And the ctber doesn't need a babysitter, if and when they decide to ctb is their business! I dislike the thought/ assumption those who want to ctb need help or want to be saved! This is how that stupid saying, "There were no signs," mean. There are no signs because we never ask to be saved!

Taking this at face value, and treating it as if it were true... which it probably isn't... but anyway...

If the one guy was accused of a rape that he committed and got away with, then yes people should know about it and he should have some consequences for it. BUT if he was falsely accused, and this does happen, then why would you think he did anything wrong? While it is true that WAY more men are getting away with sexual assaults than are punished for it... that doesn't mean every man who has ever been accused is automatically guilty. There are numerous cases of women who eventually admitted they made up their assault claim, and those women did not suffer nearly as much as did the innocent men they accused.

Meanwhile...

The guy who said he attempted suicide a year earlier. He confessed to actually doing something... to his boss... while I think it a cruel reaction to immediately think "I should fire this guy for being unstable" I don't think it unreasonable for him to be concerned that maybe this isn't the best employee to have. Not only did the employee admit to being suicidal and having tried to die already, but he didn't have the good sense to NOT admit it to his boss. You never admit something like that to your boss and expect it not to affect everything. Your boss is not your friend, even if you had a friend that became your boss. Your boss is not your friend or confidant.

this, like most things on reddit, is almost certainly not true. while the boss's reaction is one that many tend to have upon learning someone is suicidal, the circumstances leading up to it are incredibly unrealistic

thank you guys for reminding me that things that Reddit and 4chan aren't real~ >_< Those sites disgust me, and other than their generally awful culture, that's definitely part of why! >:(

Related... I get tired of having to perpetually block new Youtube suggestions of videos relating reddit stories. It is tiresome and never seems to end.
