My employee confessed that he attempted suicide and I feel like I should fire him
I have an assistant named "Cody" who has been with me for several years. He's such a good assistant that he drove 100 miles to pick up my wallet that I had left behind at a hotel. We were working late on a project last week and we started talking about personal stuff. I had told him that I once dated a girl who falsely accused me of rape and it was a stroke of luck that I wasn't charged. The DA had planned on charging me until they retired and her replacement decided not to charge me.
He said that last summer he attempted suicide. He bought some fentanyl pills and swallowed every pill. He even tested them and left a note. I couldn't believe it. He didn't say why he tried killing himself. I feel like I should fire him. He's obviously not stable and I feel like I'm responsible for his well being yet I can't babysit him. It's a responsibility that I don't want. I was happy not knowing about it.
