Hello all,

This thread is on the topic of media (tv, film, videos, books, articles etc) that portrays suicide in a way you appreciate or would recommend to others.

For me there are a few I find myself going back to:

- Welcome to the NHK episodes 11 - 14 (comedic yet highly poignant, I would highly recommend this series to anyone but especially this arc, it doesn't portray everything as fine and has some hard-hitting messages)
- The Vice Aokigahara video with the old man who regularly goes to the forest and tries to find people before they do anything (the film-making is probably somewhat manipulative but it is still very sad)
- The Royal Tenenbaums (the famous cutting scene, I know a lot of people hate this film but I find it is full of humanity, the portrayal of depression is really well done in my opinion)

Anyone else have any?

If you are looking for a TV show that revolves around the topics of depression and suicidal thoughts, I can recommend Ricky Gervais' TV series "After Life", which has a total of 18 episodes divided between three seasons, so it's not a long-running series, but easy to digest.

There's a doc movie on netflix (?) that I think might be called Alternatives, or something like that. Anyway, it shows a few different approaches to death ceremonies/funerals. It's very helpful. The media is extremely powerful and can help to normalize taking death into our own hands. I just wish this campaign had been started a few decades ago...

There is a documentary called The Bridge that details the lives of several people who jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. I thought it was very powerful, you may find it on YouTube, or Dopebox if you're in the UK.
