I can't answer the first, but when measuring I would recommend putting paper down over the scale, setting to 0, then adding the SN to weigh it. You can use any item to weigh something like this. You can practice by trying this if you bake something from scratch, like weighing out sugar or something.

Do you have a grams scale? You set the scale to 0 to start before you weigh anything. Essentially if you need to weigh a liquid or something already in a container first, you weigh the container by itself, then set scale to zero (as if nothing is on there). After that, you add what you're trying to weigh, and you get the weight of the item (SN) you're trying to measure, rather than the combined weight of SN + bowl, for example.

About the measuring thing: you can put anything on your scale (I used a glass, to make sure it wouldn't get all over the place), make sure it's turned off, turn on and add SN, it won't measure the "container". If you want to be extra precise, you can buy a jewelry scale. But to be honest, you don't have to be that precise. Same with water for the solution, you can use the scale or a measuring cup.

About the SN itself: Nothing will happen to it if its unopened, keep it in room temperature in a cupboard or something like that, away from sunlight. (Light can make it oxidize) I opened mine 4 months before attempting and it still worked. Just make sure it's air tight and it should be fine + re-do the test before taking it, just to make sure.

I would recommend looking up videos on scales and how to use them! They're really easy to find and will be very important for this method.

If it arrives in just a bag (mine arrived in a plastic jar) I'd recommend putting it in a container (still in the bag) and closing it air tight. I don't know how reliable bags are, better safe than sorry.
