I recently got quetiapine for sleep. I'm having a lot of really harsh sleeping problems. I hate sleeping pills. I was taking ketrel (quetiapine) like 10 ya, it wasn't great. I'm scared it won't work, I'm scared it could work.

How are you're experience? Do you know how it goes with alcohol?

I heard that low doses of Quetiapine are more helpful for sleep compared to high doses. I personally don't really use Quetiapine for sleep, but it did make me feel drowsy. Not as much now as I either have built resistance against it or because of the fact that I had another night meds specifically for sleep that I just stopped hence why I'm more "awake" at night despite the Quetiapine.

Another problem with Quetiapine with some people would be urge of hunger and snacking at night, if that might be a problem with you.

I have taken Quetiapine and all my other meds several times with alcohol. I do try to avoid them when I've been drinking for too much (if I'm tipsy etc) just because they can cause worse hangovers in the morning (especially the headache). However, if I'm just socially drinking or if I'm drinking by myself and I'm just drinking 1-2 standard drinks, I find myself taking my meds without any significant problems following that.

Many years ago I took it for insomnia and it saved my life. Very serious.

Frustrating to fight back from that and wind up back in this spot anyway. If it helps you please make it worth it. Insomnia changes you, even after you beat it. Make sure you stay a good person. I let it drive me mad. Let it make me angry and mean. Be careful.

Im on 25mg of quetiapine at night and have taken it before at 50mg, it definitely does help sleep but in my experience it makes it really hard to wake up for a while. also if i decided not to/forgot to take it for one night it would be impossible to sleep without it.
until recently i had another 25mg to take in the morning and it would take me out for like 5 hours during the day, with both i would sleep a total of like 15-17 hours a day lol.

i've had all the negative side effects including increased hunger and excessive drowsiness after the "adaptation" time. also does not mesh well with alcohol and has made me extremely dizzy/drowsy when using both

i used to take quetiapine for 3 years, 50mg. im tapering down now. it definitely will impact your sleep.

for me, it would sedate me too much, to the point i would be exhausted in the mornings. like i wouldnt feel like getting out of bed at all, sleeping for 11-12 hours (though that could just be my illnesses). theres a lot u should know about antipsychotics before starting them.

depending on your reason for starting, i dont know why they would prescribe you quetiapine and not something like doxepin or ambien (unless youve already tried those). it definitely knocks you out, though.

Extended use heightens risks like metabolic syndrome (diabetes, high cholesterol), cataracts, or osteoporosis from prolactin effects—routine bloodwork and eye exams are standard. Abrupt stopping can trigger withdrawal like insomnia or nausea, so taper under guidance. Factors like age, dose (higher for schizophrenia vs. depression), and combos with other meds amplify risks. It's not a magic pill after all.

I was on it for a while, but gained so much weight from being on it, coudent stand it. So switched stabiliser, and now only take it as a top up to knock me out when my brain goes manic.
