Help Questions on synthesizing SN (Sodium Nitrite)

So recently I placed a order for SN and the lder is on hold and I'm unsure if I'll be getting it because I found out later that companies would be suspicious if you just order SN to a residential area.

Kinda pisses me off but whatever ill find other ways of cbting

Rambling aside, I was thinking of just making it myself with a few household ingredients and some tutorials I found online. I'm unsure if there's anything I need to know before I attempt this (please let me know if that's the case) but it seems straightforward enough.

this is the tutorial ill be following and itll probably be much easier to get my hands on these to make SN



Pls lmk if there's anything I need to know of a easier solution to making SN at home

If you don't have a chemistry background (which I'd guess not, if you're using TikTok), then this is a bad idea.

Do you know what "stoichiometric amounts" means? Do you have a fume cupboard in case you produce nitrogen dioxide or sodium oxide?

Do you have the means to heat something to 650 Kelvin? That's about 375 C or 710 F. It's hotter than domestic appliances will typically go.

The speaker in the video achieved a 76.5% yield (on the assumption, probably incorrect, that there is no remaining sodium nitrate). That means you'd need at least 20g of sodium nitrate for 15g of sodium nitrite. If you want a spare dose, make that 40g. If you think your efficiency will be lower, you'll need more.

It's likely your final product will be significantly less pure than something you could get from the Polish or Ukrainian suppliers, and you will have no real way of knowing the purity.

I'd also be surprised if it's easy to get large volumes of sodium nitrate and calcium sulphite delivered to a residential address - or rather, if it's any easier than just getting sodium nitrite delivered.

also yeah im kinda stupid sorry and yes i use tiktok to like find stuff since usually the videos are short

but ya im pretty sure i can get a large quantity of sodium nitrate for the process from stores so yeah

I will simplify it this way: it is certainly easier and far safer in every sense to find and order a ready-made SN on the Internet than to synthesize it yourself at home.
