Some time ago. I reached the conclusion that psychiatrists are failures - unable to achieve status and acclaim in more reputable fields of medicine. They cannot succeed in Neurology, or Gastroenterology, or Hepatology, or Cardiology or Rheumatology etc. So they enter a field which is the "Cinderella" of the medical profession because they can move up the ladder and achieve a Consultancy position quicker than if they entered any other medical specialisation
Interestingly, if you have a psychiatrist as I once had (over ten years ago) you can expect them to obtain your phone number from your medical records, call you up one evening to ask you if you wouldn't mind helping them with their Master's degree dissertation in Mental Health Law (because they know you studied Law at undergraduate level). You realise very quickly that any help you might have received is contingent upon you helping them, and that if you complain, you can expect the Sword of Damocles to descend upon you because these people are - fundamentally unethical.
