I remember the first time I said something related to suicide to a therapist, he stopped me at the moment saying "I do not treat people that wants to die, only people that want to live."
I took that as a warning.
Technically the helplines might be a place to talk to someone without the danger of being sectioned due to the privacy. But they are soooo untrained. Would be better to talk to a wall.
Maybe you can find someone here that can talk to you over discord.
I would love to chat with someone from here but my Brazilian accent would get in the way and even though I can listen to videos and movies in english, I might have trouble hearing the words.
Meh ...
Wow that is so inappropriate to say. I don't know how there are so many clinicians with no empathy or social skills.
In the USA they are trained not to say things like this if they want to maintain any sort of trust with the patient. It'd be like stopping someone from talking about childhood abuse and saying, "I only treat people who are focused on the present, not dwelling on the past"
For private practice where some clinicians prefer not to deal with suicidal patients, they are supposed to be polite and refer you out. After all if you wrote that they dismissed you in your suicide note and your family decided to sue, their malpractice insurance is gonna go wayyyy up!
Though the consequence is that some therapists will try to coax a suicidal response from you so they can section you due to liability reasons, and they'll tell you right before they're gonna send you away (informed consent). Somehow sending you to jail for being sad does not ruin the therapeutic relationship as much as stopping them from talking about it.
