The police where i am are super corrupt (Met Police in London UK). Does anyone know what the procedure is when a body is found in a house? I live alone and have read a few bits of info online that seem to suggest the pigs will go through all your stuff and even take valuables back to the station. In other words, steal your stuff.

I have some valuable and sentimental pieces of jewellery from my late mother and these are detailed in my will (in terms of who gets them). I also keep alot of cash in the house, it's mainly to cover the immediate expenses of the executor of my will.

I don't want the cops stealing my stuff and i don't want them having unfettered access to my property. Does anyone know how this would work in the UK?

I'm not in a position to give the jewellery to the people I want to have them because we are in different countries; I can't fly there because of a brain tumour and they cant afford to come here but in any case, their country has banned international travel.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or input

Can't you put the valuables in a safety deposit box at the bank? Not sure if they have those in the UK. Or you could buy a safe from the store, and put the combination in the will.

Thank you for your suggestion. I do have a small piddly safe in my house. It's not obvious to outsiders where it is. I have a key and the executor of my will has a key. I could certainly put all the jewellery in there, although I'd have liked to die wearing my mother's ring as it brings me comfort - but I'm sure they will steal it off my dead body.

I'm worried they search my house , find the safe and the safe key or break it open if they can't find the key.

I don't think you have much to worry about if you have instructed your solicitor tbh, but if you are concerned could you not ask your brief to hold the items securely for you? I'm also in the UK (London).

I don't have a solicitor. It'll be an acquaintance who deals with my affairs and my house is more secure than hers. If i gave her the stuff to keep in her house, she would be suspicious about why.

Ah OK. Then a safe or deposit box would be the way to go.

These are my thoughts, I don't know if you'll find them helpful. You could leave a note near your body that says you were wearing the ring, you've sent a delayed message to your executor, and they will expect to have it returned by the morgue/coroner/hospital/police. If the pigs steal the ring and you're dead, I know it's offensive, but I think I would consider it of more value to wear it and be comforted by it, then have it go to someone else after who didn't have the same connection with your mother and with the ring.

I wouldn't do the same with the cash, though, because then it might get stuck in probate rather than immediately turned over to the person you want it to go to. I don't know the laws there, but I wouldn't risk it. If have it hidden and then send a delayed message to that person where to find it. You could spread it out in different places, like food containers, behind the plate of an electric socket, underneath a heavy piece of furniture, tucked in at the top of a curtain, underneath the bottom of a closed window pane, underneath the fridge, etc. Then write a list, take a picture of the list, maybe even of the money in each hiding place alongside a newspaper from that day, and attach the photos to the delayed email.

I back up the putting your valuables in a safe place such as a bank. Alternatively you could CTB away from where you live such as a hotel, and have a note saying your ring is on your finger and if not found on your body, it was stolen by the police. That note could be placed where your other valuables are kept, preferably signed. I wish you luck whichever path you choose

This member already ctb-d, but my suggestion would be a delayed email to the police, with photos of the stuff taken just before the attempt, and a note to the police that will come, that such email has been sent. Im not sure if my idea is good tho
