This is EXACTLY it.
Especially when you have nothing but your thoughts of the past to keep you company.

I've "come to the full realization that absolutely noone is coming to save me.
But who could save me from myself anyway?

Finally someone else says it. It's like lifers cannot grasp that other people just do not like life. It's that fucking simple. God it's so exhausting dealing with these fucks.

Does benzo withdrawal count as a mental illness. I absolutely refuse to call it that! Mental illness should be organic, mine is doctor induced (iatrogenic).

This is my biggest problem. Nothing was done when it could have been. I was written off as crazy. Now there's nothing anyone can do. I can't look forward because I 'm already a decade behind

I would add misanthropy to finances, chronic health problems, and mental health disorders / illnesses. Having said that, I don't think the type of depression that I have should be described as a mental illness. It's more like a societal illness. It's not a chemical imbalance that's derived from a genetic disorder, brain injury or tumor, or an endocrine problem. It's a biochemical response to a set of undesirable environmental conditions. Happiness or wellness could be objectively described a measure of well a person's genetics and social programming is in alignment with their environment.

I don't experience misanthropy, but this is really well said. And I resonate with most of it.

I ticked most of the options, except for the top two since I don't believe that I have those issues. As far as other reasons I will add that I have Aspergers (considered more of a developmental disorder - I suppose that could fit under the first choice but I don't know) which causes the other problems (prolonged stress, unemployment, social isolation, etc.). As for my "other" reason, it would be philosophical as in since I didn't choose to be born, I should have a say in when I choose to leave this world.

I think when you come to the realisation that everything we hope for, once we have it, is never as good as we had envisioned. Then that same burning desire to have something we don't have burns ever brighter leaving what we had once longed for in the shadows, or worse still regretting having lost it through our own errors. And there is nothing more painful than regret.

I also think age plays a part, we lose that enthusiasm and vigour for life which drives us from an early age only to stagger, stall, until we eventually run out of fuel. Exactly when that happens depends on the individual and his own mindset and circumstances, as we've all had different experiences of life, though have ultimately ended up at the same place.

Some people call it depression, others a mental illness, though I personally call it life. We weren't given any promises of having a life of joy and free from pain, yet we are somewhere along the lines tricked into believing that to be the case, so it's perfectly natural to become disillusioned with life when we had expected something different, something better.

I chose all but two …
Social Isolation … I love being alone when I get the chance.
Unemployment … but you never know as shitty as my life is.
