Had a dog for 18 years that we put down 2 yrs ago. Now I have a baby (2 yrs old) who is worse than any pet, lol. I thought my dog made messes. This kid makes a mess of toys scattered over every square inch of floor in a huge house, and WOSRT, throws his sippy cup of milk constantly and splatters the whole floor and walls and cabinets. I'll take dog hair any day. Plus, my dog was trustworthy, and toddlers are not.

Edit to add: growing up I had a lot of strange pets due to my brother being allergic to everything. I had all sorts of reptiles, turtles, rare snakes, and a potbellied pig, which is like a dog but likes to use its snout to rub you, which really hurts. We also got a dog but had to get rid of it b/c of my brother.

Do you raise them? I visited a goat farm to do an article on them, and it was lucky b/c one of the goats (I think pigmies???) was dying, and the owner only noticed b/c I noticed something about the goat was off. You might know the condition--I forget its name--something about it being on its side for too long if I remember correctly... Plus, it was freezing cold, and that played in. She saved it, which was great.

I have a cat. It really weighs on me what to do about him. He's considered geriatric but is in good health all things considered.

My dog lived in good health till 18. She even had bladder cancer the last 2 years (starting as bladder infections) but was happy as can be. You will know when they are suffering. It is night and day. I was worried when and if I'd know. But you KNOW. My dog went from being fine to within a week refusing even her favorite foods, dwindling them one by one on a daily basis. Then water. Then wouldn't even take a dropper of water. She couldn't get off her bed despite wanting to, not even lift her head. She began having seizures in the day. This was abrupt--all of it. So don't fret too much. But don't let them go past that point and starve to death or dehydrate. That is brutal, from personal experience in my own body.

Totally agree. I lost my other cat about a year ago and I felt really good about when I had the vet come in. It didn't feel too early or too late.

No i didnt raise the two we currently have.
They're adopted haha sweet characters and ones blind in one eye.

Ive lived here for over 10 years and weve had many a goat. Raised a few but nothing fancy

Interesting! Yeah that happened to our first goat we had her since a baby till old. She was a character. I dont know the name but i know what you are talking about. Amazing that it could be saved.

Yeah, she rubbed it a lot (it was 15 years ago, so I forget). Glad your goat was okay as well. Goats really seem to like me, lol. I've been around them a lot and they always gravitate to me in hordes. Don't know why. That's really sweet you have them. I had the potbellied pig I mentioned above. Sort of similar.

Our cat died in October. She started vomiting blood and smelling badly and my grandmother got her euthanized. I regret not insisting on euthanizing at home, but I didn't have any money at the time. She got taken to the vet and was probably scared and upset. She was not a very nice cat when she was young, but later she got nicer. I miss her :(

Agreed. I had a cat who had cancer. You know when it's their time. I too was worried about not knowing when it's time to put her down, but when it was her time, it was obvious it was her time.

I got a dog recently. The plan is actually that my mom will take over the dog after i'm gone, so she doesn't have to be all alone

Guines pigs. Imo in ways intelligent as dogs. All mine are toilet trained! Not sure how, maybe they did it by themselves. Very individual personalities. Sadly the most neglected pet in UK along with rabbits. All mine respond to their name. 3 inadvertent rescues. One just passed, the grumpy alpha sow hindering everyone. RIP my kindred spirit, unable to socialise among it's own kind

I don't have any pets. I'm glad. Because I've been involuntarily hospitalized several times. None of my family is local and I have no friends so my pet would be SOL with me being hospitalized or wanting/needing to go on a road trip. Plus it snows here in winter. My apartment only has these little built in space heaters to warm the apartment. My pet would probably freeze to death.

I have a beautiful dog, a golden retriever wich is almost 1 year old. I love playing with him when I'm not feeling as bad as usual.

He's currently my only pet but I had a lot of them when I was a kid. A cat, goldfishes, turtles, hamsters... I've always loved animals. I remember that at one time I wanted a snake or a scorpion but my parents wouldn't buy me one LOL.

Oh yeah. How could I forget that. The fucking hedgeogh. I found it in the woods and brought it home. But I wasn't sure on what to feed him and I thought that he looked sad and maybe had a family or something (I was just a child ahahaha) so I let it free after a couple of days.

Mine are picky too, but they'll accept green/red leaf as an alternative. Sometimes I can even trick them into eating spinach if I mix it up well enough into the lettuce!

4 kitties and a doggo, I've had a lot of pets over the years, tortoise, duck... I'd love to have a little corn snake but I don't think I'll have the chance now
