but just had the police on the doorstep concerned for my safety? Like seriously what the fuck, when I go on my path, I ain;t even hinting about this shit on social media.
I only posted tonight about full closure of my business and BAM some idiot phones police concerned for my well being, I had to apologise majorly for wasting their time and let them on their way!

I was truely embarrassed that someone wasted their time!! He was going on about my social media, of which I have nothing on it, but fucking internet wasn't working at that time so I couldn't prove anything, but I was trying which I think showed the geezer that I had nothing to hide.
I kept him out of my house, as I didn't want my daughter who was up distressed, But I have NOTHING to show on social media if I wish to CTB or not, I apologised majorly for his waste of time and sent him on his way!

You don't need to, for some stupid reason people do pick up 'subconscious' clues from you and get "hysterical" .

They may know some of your background/situation is bad , and you might sound a bit sadder than usual and/or less talkative or responsive , so if you are closing (business or something) they may be fearful etc.

It's probably good thing that some people not totally oblivious and can actually sense distress. It's probably bad that they're not really helpful and just cause more trouble .

When it happened to me it was 3AM (!!) they came with flashlights (!!) were very shaken themselves (expecting to see a body lol) . And searched my place (like 2 minutes nothing serious) , which was stupid . They asked me "are you going to do something soon?" . It was very traumatic . For weeks I was fearful police are coming at any minute . Every noise , every phone call , etc ... Took me time to joke about it (just stupid coping) but still have vivid flashbacks . So yeah , quite normal for ctbers

There are many, many, people here who wish that someone cared and listened to their cries for help. I believe many, if not most people instinctively want to help a fellow human being in distress. Then there are of course conformist people who tink mechanically and interfere because "you simply don't do something like that". Maybe I'm naive, but I like to think that the latter are in minority.

it is hard, I managed to push him out of the front door, blaming my 10 yr old daughter being downstairs as an excuse for not wanting him in the house, which he accepted, slamming the door behind me, even when my husband tried coming out I stopped him, he didnlt question anything, It was odd , but I guess like you say people can pick up on something that isn't there if they just have a hint of your past!! I am known to the police but even so!

I'm confused as to your confusion about why someone was concerned about you. You claim you didn't post anything on social media that even remotely related to ctb. Do you not consider the highlighted part above to be suicide-related?

Would it be better for me to phone the person myself to find out if they're okay, even if I don't know them well - even if it's not my role in their life (they have a spouse/SO/family, I'm just a casual acquaintance) - even if I don't have the time or energy to get involved in case they ask for (or clearly need) help?

Was it ever settled whether or not I'm my brother's keeper?

CS Lewis wrote (I think in _The Screwtape Letters_) that men tend not to invade another person's privacy, even if that means neglecting to help them when they need it; while women tend to prioritize helping even when it means turning the person's life upside-down, invading their privacy, etc. I doubt the split is along gender lines, but there definitely are two approaches.
