I believe that suicide is risky, tragic, dangerous, lonely, and a terrible place for someone to find themselves contemplating it.

However, the world is changing, not that quickly, but not slowly either. I believe euthanasia is by far the best way to go. No risk of botched suicides with awful consequences, plus among other things, it guarantees a peaceful death, guided by health professionals that will try to minimise your pain, find cures, and help you decide if you really do want to die, or if it is just a temporary, impulsive decision. You can then choose to die in comfort, without risk of prison, psychiatric wards, and to be able to be with your family and friends in your final moments, in comfort, knowing you will be given the most peaceful death possible, and not unnecessarily putting friends and family through grief that they may never recover from. Families can prepare for one's departure, ask questions, give support, get closure, and reduce the grief they'd otherwise go through.

It will take years for euthanasia to be widely available, but many countries, such as the UK, Canada and many others appear to be on a fairly consistent course towards more and more liberal stances to the controversial issue. More and more evidence is mounting that concerns of abuse, slippery slopes etc, are unfounded, and most populations are increasingly showing greater support towards looser euthanasia laws.

I beg you all to join two subreddits that are geared towards creating awareness of the ethical arguments that support greater acceptance of euthanasia and campaigns geared towards the goal of respecting the choice of people who are suffering and have a persistent wish to die. It reduces impulsive suicides and the detrimental consequences of impulsive suicides, dangerous/risky methods, and all the rest.


There are also other pro-euthanasia campaign groups which you can find on the internet and in those subs, and I recommend you find one campaigning in your country and contribute what you can there. Either by small donations, or sharing their links in social media like facebook, or taking part in demonstrations, or writing letters to politicians expressing your views, or any other number of actions. You can make a difference! Every little helps. And people here have many arguments that could be persuasive, especially given our numbers here.

So please! Join the subs, submit articles, personal stories, statistics, whatever you think will make a difference.

Euthanasia is not guaranteed. Even Nation states botch death all the time. Commercialisation of it would make it even worse.

I think the whole thing needs to be setup right. I don't know how that would look, but I l know just making it legal would be a disaster.

I personally don't think that euthanasia is guaranteed to be legalised for us during our entire lifetime. This world just isn't ready for that yet. I believe that, if you want to die, you shouldn't rely on euthanasia as I just can't see it getting legalised for people like us. Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm extremely cynical about this

Only neurotypicals are welcome on that website. It is operated for profit, it is beholden to the opinions of the masses and euthanasia is not at the point where this type of social media conversation is going to be productive.

I'd go tell them to fuck off but I've already been banned more than fifty times from that site. As I said, neurotypicals only--experiences outside of the average are about as well understood there as they are among the general population, because the userbase of that website is a bunch of economic consumers. How do you expect behaviour outside the norm from a normative culture?

If you're not Canadian, stay out of my rights. If you are Canadian, engage with our political system to support my rights. Don't fuck around making noise on social media that's only going to result in disinformation and heated debate.

It's absolutely NOT only NTs - there are a bunch of ND discussions so I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but I've found Reddit fairly helpful for some of my issues. If you're getting banned, it's because you may be breaking that subreddit's rules.

as long as it's an economic organisation, its primary purpose is to serve the economy.

Of course I broke rules otherwise I'd never have been banned; the thing is, their definition of acceptable conduct is neurotypical and once in a while I am unable to comply with the requirements of society at large. Instead of acceptance and compassion I was face with rejection and ostracism. Cue nuclear response.

Speak for your own country!

Out of nowhere, completely unexpected, the progress since I wrote this post in the UK has been incredible! A celebrity teamed up with a charity for assisted dying, made and promoted a successful online petition via mainly social media, and the politicians had a debate, and the overwhelming conclusion reached by them was FOR assisted dying!! They accepted that the public, and professionals who have the most significant input in this topic, are leading the way in a change of opinion and it was recognised that it's the duty of politicians to make sure law follows suit, and that the law as it stands is out of date, dangerous, and among other things, demonstrates a lack of compassion for those suffering with little to no hope of being cured.

It appears, that as a result, in the next few years, legalisation of euthanasia is almost guaranteed. The only question really, is precisely what the law will be; will it just be for those who are terminally ill, or will it be looser like that of Belgium, Switzerland and Canada, and be available also generally to people who are disabled, or also potentially even for those with serious mental illness. I am so inspired by the huge swing in opinion recently, I feel empowered, that if I do research and put in significant work, I can have my voice heard, and influence the campaign to enable people with mental health problems also to have euthanasia available to them as an option, in the right circumstances.

So. Lesson to be learned: it's ALWAYS worth fighting, even if just on social media. Legalisation of euthanasia may be much closer than you think. But charities, politicians, petitions, they're all absolutely worth it. You just need to reach a tipping point, and capture the natural empathy most people have, and educate people about the suffering many people endure, and the fact that sometimes, euthanasia is the only, and most compassionate, solution.

Not a bad concept, but don't be surprised if Reddit manipulates a way to shut the sub down. Ever since going public they have been obsessed about being investor-friendly. Allowing anything remotely pro-CTB to stay up, particularly when the site targets the demographic of people under 35, is destined for a mysterious "unmoderated" warning or targeted CP spam shutdown. It's happened before.

ETA: They are pro euthanasia to an extent but mostly for old, ill and disabled only.

I agree with you and would choose my own method over trusting drug-based euthanasia, but still support pro-euthanasia movements as a whole.
