Howdy y'all !!
I'm interested in buying a gun, I think I know what type I want to get, but I'm so scared to get myself to a gun store and just make a purchase. Idk if it's SI or what.. I know I'm so lucky I have the option to go to a store and buy one so easily but I'm just terrified of them thinking I'm not well enough to buy it. And I guess I'm just nervous to go out with such a violent method but I feel I don't have any other options..
Any advice ?!

If you're in the US in a red state, it's pretty easy. Just pretend to be wowed and excited. But there's no special way to act. Even serious is fine. If they ask, just say "it's just fun" or something.

They don't get to decide who's well enough to buy a gun and who isn't unless you're acting completely insane and they call the police.

If you're in the US in a red state, it's pretty easy. Just pretend to be wowed and excited. But there's no special way to act. Even serious is fine. If they ask, just say "it's just fun" or something.

This. I live in a red US state. They don't give you any kind of evaluation before selling it to you, you'll be ok.

Hey sweetie! The gun store employees won't grill you or anything unless you give off what we used to call "the vibe". And they can refuse a sale. I have seen it happen but only once, so don't fret. Just tell the truth -- you are interested in guns, but you don't know a lot about them and so you are a little scared. They will be glad to show you as many guns as you want to see, and tell you all about guns in general.

If you decide to buy a gun you will have to fill out a Form 4473 for the feds. The gun store will call it in and you will either be approved, delayed (which is generally no big deal -- I have friends in LE that get delayed every single time they buy a gun because they have been fingerprinted. Sometimes it's something as simple as having a very common name.), or denied. I've never seen a denial, only a delay. Also be aware that the 4473 will have questions about mental health on it. Unless you have been involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric facility, none of those should cause you any issues.

Finally, you might check the forum for other options, including maybe trying to get help. I am in no way trying to talk you into (or out of) anything. Just saying that sometimes a little time can give you the opportunity to consider other options, including therapy. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you find the peace we all search for.
