hey! i'm new so please bare with me. i wanted to make a thread sharing information about your typical OTC medicines, how they can kill you, and my experiences with them.

i'm the most knowledgeable with acetaminophen, aka tylenol but is in.. pretty much every painkiller! the maximum safe dose is 4,000 mg in 24 hrs- and considering they come in typically 300-600 mg otc pills... that's a lot! surprisingly people manage to overdose on them completely unintentionally, which makes them very safe for the "i had no idea what i was doing, i totally wasn't attempting suicide" excuse if you are hospitalized.

so, in terms of lethality - acetaminophen isn't very deadly, but it is very possible for it to kill you. i believe theres 67k deaths a year attributed to an acetaminophen overdose, either intentional or not. with 4k being the max "safe" dosage for 24 hours, you'll need to, at the very least, double it - 8k will cause you a lot of harm, especially in the liver, but might not kill you if you weigh a lot. but the beautiful thing about medicine is that alcohol makes it deadly. so, 8k mg sober may not kill you, but 8k mg while intoxicated might. of course, it all goes by weight & contents of your stomach. if you just ate & are overweight, you might need around 15k mg to get the same effect. additionally, you can mix it with other otc medicine if any kind - ibuprofen & tylenol is known to cause stomach bleeding, which is a few days in the hospital if you chose to get help & death in a few days if severe & left untreated. a successful lethal overdose will shut down your liver & sort of cause a domino effect throughout your organs.

so, what to expect if you somehow manage to down an entire bottle of tylenol? well, you're going to vomit. a LOT. probably once every 15-30 minutes, speaking from experience. this will also cause permanent liver damage, even if you only take 6k mg sober. your stomach will be in a lot of pain, and you'll spend the entire night nauseous & feeling very, very sick. death will take several hours, if you manage to hit lethal territory. it's not going to be a peaceful "pass out in your sleep" death. you will be vomiting, crying, and feeling horrible.

i've overdosed on acetaminophen probably around 3 times total - 2 in the last month, actually. i probably took around 6k mg mixed with 4k mg naproxen & a couple cans of beer. it very obviously didn't kill me, but completely ruined my stomach - i can barely eat now, it gives me intense pain. my throat is still sore from spending all night vomiting, which makes drinking things hard. my body is sore, and very weak. you wake up with a huge "hangover" feeling, even if you weren't drunk, and you'll still vomit in the morning. you'll probably be unable to eat for a few days. as of now, my body physically cannot handle the sight of the pills - if i even look at one, i begin gagging. my brain is unbothered, but my body physically recoils because of the nights of vomiting. poor thing.

yes, it is possible to die this way, and even if you're unsuccessful you'll still be able recover, just with a bum liver. i hope this informal guide was educational! i don't recommend it, personally. it's hard, you need to take upwards of 20 pills, and you'll pretty much have chronic nausea if you survive

Statistically there are 40 unsuccessful attempts to OD to everyone one success. Lots of variables, and most people aren't taking SN or whatever else. Still something to think about if going that route.

I would recommend searching Diphenhydramine on the website search bar if you're confined to OTC overdose. There is a few useful posts but also be wary of the people posting about it because some tales aren't the most accurate. It was going to be my method of choice until I found a SN supplier, it is very viable but not the most pleasant without benzo's. Not advising you to harm yourself but just supplying information about the question you asked, do with it what you will

When you are in such a pain you should take some strong dose of antipsychotic to shut your brain out. You'll wake up better later.

Well described mild overdose.

Death usually reported to last several days. Chronic nausea seems best case scenario.

"DO NOT attempt to OD on any drug containing paracetamol/acetaminophen: it will destroy your liver and leave you in agony before it comes close to killing you." - A list of warnings (unofficial)

. . . . . . need a sticky on this forum just telling people to not OD on OTC pills at all. Not only will it not kill you . . . . . . but it can cause permanent organ damage and you're just going to feel not only shitty mentally but physically on top of that.
Diphenhydramine was my first plan. After research I concluded to myself that although it cannot be ruled out as a viable possibility, information about it is scarce; medical cases are rare; and many claims (made in good faith) about it are hard to substantiated.
