Is there a top ranking type of SN. Or just any brand. Mine claims to be 99%. Any details of a company is better than an other.

Sorry, it is against forum rules to list these things. SN, for the most part, is just SN. Like how store brand ketchup or name brand is still ketchup....I know SN and ketchup are two different things but hoping you get my comparison. Some purities more/less than others. Brands don't matter. All that matters is you get the right product you are looking for with the correct purity.

SN stands for Sodium Nitrite. It is not a brand name. It is a molecule like water (H2O). The purity gives out the quality. No need to compare companies. 95% is as lethal as 99,9. You wont want to chose 95% if you want to use it for food purposes.

One thing that might be worth looking for is to get lab or technical grade, rather than food grade, since I think the shelf life is longer.
It might also be worth ordering two : one to open for testing/checking, and one to keep fully sealed....

The brand name doesnt tell you anything really other than perhaps where there drug is being manufactured. For instance, if you live in New Zealand, which is where Im from, the brand name is DBL Sodium Nitrite, if your from the US or UK it would be Nithiodote or Sodium Nitrite or if your from the Netherlands it would be Natriumnitriet.
With regards to ranking, yes I guess you could say that there is a ranking so to speak of all chemicals in that they are each tested with regards to meeting a specific purity standard before they are manufactured. So large Analytical Chemistry & Microbiology teams are essentially responsible for identifying & grading every chemical that comes across their desk before it goes out for manufacturing. As you can imagine a huge job. But this is where, what you were talking about in your post comes into play, the "ranking" as you referred to it, but the actual term is "grading". So first of all the Manufacturer has to decide what degree of chemical purity is needed based on the intended use. Once that is established, the chemical is then graded from lowest to highest. There are several grade that exist but for the purposes of this forum you just need to know that for example you have an ACS or American Chemical Society Grade which is the highest purity down to what is refferred to as Technical grade, which is used for commercial and industrial purposes but is not pure enough to be offered for food, drug, or medicinal use of any kind. Hopefully that has clarified any questions you had around branding and also "ranking" of chemicals?
