N is painless (though I would guess that it doesn't taste good at all) and assuming you're drinking a full bottle of 100 ml, it will work just fine. Keep in mind that you will have to minimize how much you eat beforehand, you should only eat a light meal in the hours before CTB. No, there are no permanent damage associated with the usage of N. (as @befree has said below; oxygen deprivation could cause permanent damage if you fail to CTB and wake up)

I don´t agree. When your breathing slows (respiratory depression / hypoventilation) to the point of oxygen deprivation, permanent brain damage can be the result.

But not only permanent brain damage can be the result. "Delayed complications of barbiturate toxicity in survivors include aspiration with and without pneumonia, pulmonary edema, cerebral edema and infarct, and multiorgan failure." Not only the brain needs oxygen, but all organs and the entire body.

I'm pretty sure damage only happens if you are re-revived and not left to die.

It's a matter of time, so when you get help. Normally you don´t want to be found for a long period of time when you CTB. This increases the risk of permanent organ damage.
