Is anyone else checking like almost every day (sometimes multiple time a day, in my case) the "suicide news" online ? like I would type "suicide" and then go to the news section on Google. It's one of the most obsessive activity I have lately (besides sleeping and well rotting in bed...). I don't really know why I do that but it sorts of "calm me" ??? since there's no pictures nor names (usually) about the person who died, simply vague circonstances, I don't feel empathy, just morbid curiosity and maybe I'm searching for ideas ? but mostly I think I'm jealous of those people who finally died and are free of this non-sense circus that is being "alive".

I'm the same except I search for things that happened locally and to people with similar circumstances to mine, it helps to plan it out better

I usually don't through google, but recently a recommended search came up on my feed with a family of 3 that did it here in my country.
Long story short, a father shot his son and his wife then himself as an act of mercy.
The son was terminally ill from cancer which had no cure and the dad and mom felt desperate, on the verge knowing their only child is about to die.

I used to do something similar on one of those bestgore sites. I don't think it's too crazy. Google does censor a lot of suicide stories doesn't it? I never used it bc it would show that religious site every time I'd search for suicide stuff.

Yes, I do it all the time. I think it's a contemplation of suicide that comforts me in some way. At first, I only checked out celebrities, but now I'm checking out ordinary people too.

That's how I found this site too from that Reddit page - this is much better and more private which is nice too!
I am too with anything, when I see it in the news or in books and movies - I both feel less alone and curious on the why and how and also helps with my own planning

This is me exactly. Sleeping on bedroom floor 7 weeks now and rotting away with little food and all I do is play chess or google suicides. I think its a mixed bag of reasons. I hope there isnt an element of schadenfreude when it comes to rich and famous as though to say to myself 'see, its not just me, even the cream of life suffer'. I am not sure as I am not a cruel person and violence normally makes me sick. I think it is the detachment from the person like some describe that makes it like a TV show and not real.
Another aspect is just the morbid attachment to the topic while I am suffering myself.

do this and also go on the wikipedia page of famous suicides. Its starling how many seemingly successful and happy celebrities, politicians, sports stars etc end their life. Then you remember that each one could have lead to a spike in copycat suicides and it makes me feel sick that I am gorging on the news. But it is what it is when you are unwell

I don't actively search out stories, but every time I see a local story of suicide I'm intrigued. Sometimes it helps me consider methods I haven't before. Although I'm not currently actively suicidal, I feel like I'm always keen to get insights to methods to consider.

Did you ever look into the stories behind these cases? Has any of them affected you personally?

I do this too. I go on YouTube and google.

And even look it up on Reddit.

Like I remember when I found out Mikayla Raines died. I was sad because she was such a sweet and good person who was bullied so badly :( Like, it shows how the world can be so cruel.

Suicides are quite regular just on my city's news sites
Often by rail, drowning or jumping from bridges or buildings
A few weeks ago a famous sportsman hung himself and last year another sportsman died by rail. Both of these people had money friends etc yet they obviously hated life

suicide news are extremely censored here. Few stories are available for example manager xyz from bank abc committed suicide after he got caught with some shady business stuff but its really difficult to find any suicide news about average people and if some are available then extremely censored.

I wouldn't say I go out of my way to search for suicide stories but there have been times when ive looked up methods ive considered and see that there were successful attempts of people pulling them off. I think in the past it has given me comfort knowing that these ways can be done. That these people were able to overcome the obstacles both mental and physical to CTB. And in a weird way, hearing those stories does give me comfort that it is possible.

Not really, I mean when I do see the subject come up on the ""normal"" web, I usually avoid it rather than interact with it but I don't sweep it under the rug either, I do keep it in mind. Mostly 3 reasons:
1. Because people don't have any idea about it and it grinds my gears to see them talk about it.
2. Because people are somewhat desensitized to it and don't care and that PAINS ME.
(this is a big reason as to why I'm personally against 99% of NSFW/NSFL online, so many children/teens/young adults grew up with 0 empathy and are suffering from apathy when it comes to other people, sexual activities, suicides, self-harm, trauma, abuse, etc. and they just don't feel for the people involved in them anymore.)
3. And because I'm afraid my own reaction to it will ruin my day.

Sounds like what I did with SH imagery. Morbid curiosity and seeing it calmed me down. Plus the jealousy of seeing people achieve what I can only wish for.

Of course, it's perfectly normal. How do you look for them? It would be nice to open a thread where everyone can report news from the country they live in.

I do a LOT of Googling for local and regional suicides... and I save helpful news articles as PDFs so I can come back to them. The news media tries often tries not to go into detail about suicides but some outlets post articles that are quite helpful. One news article provided details about how somebody circumvented a suicide fence on a bridge. It was an ingenious and successful method.

I tend to find my way around it, usually clicking through website to website. Got to be specific with the search and stuff.
