YIKES!

Yet another reason to avoid FaceBook. An appalling betrayal of trust and privacy --all just business as usual.

Thank you, @odinrack!

Haven't been on BS book for a long time. No desire to go back either. Yeah they want to know where those suicidal people are so the authorities can come round and treat like you a criminal.

Thanks for this information. I already hate facebook for a myriad of reasons, not just centered around selling of your data and privacy. But also unethically turning you into a lab rat.

The problem with these 'algorithms' is by their nature they are quite binary and will likely flag people incorrectly. Considering what the mental health act consists of here and abroad this seems like a recipe for eventual disaster.

I don't usually post things on Facebook, and sometimes I do use the PM between a few people, but even then, that's really scary because things that are deemed non-suicide related could come up as a false-positive. Also, given how the attitude towards potentially suicidal people, they have an act first ask later approach which severely violates due process. Fuck Facebook, it's also shit nowadays and I don't frequent it so I don't get so triggered at how normies are enjoying their lives and shit.

That's disgusting. I'm always really careful about what I put on Facebook anyway due to my family... I'd delete my account but it is the only way my out-of-country family communicate with me, and my family seem to think deleting my FB account (which I've done before) is a suicidal red flag

Haha why do people always assume that? I remember back when I first ever deleted my Facebook for unrelated reasons years ago, about three of my friends messaged me like, "Hey are you okay?" and I was like yeah...I just don't want to be part of the narcissistic system, hunting for likes...

Right. What are they looking for? One word? Some algorithm!

Funny how one case is exposed on the last day of the year in 2018. Looks like someone needed a 2018 news story about 'social responsibility' to put in the Annual Shareholder's Report. Maybe this can offset all of the problems they're having with user data privacy!

(OK - so I watched too much George Carlin last night. )

Lol! Right, if u aren't on it something is wrong with u for not wanting to participate for personal reasons. It never took hold for me because I became uncomfortable almost immediately. I couldn't remain interested in Facebook, but Twitter was a different story, I loved twitter and met awesome people. It hooked me quick but then my account kept freezing and I'm not sure why. Maybe it was because I was a dissident lol!

Right lol! I even got on there and posted fake profiles because I didn't want to be friended by people who recognized or knew me. I just got on there occasionally to look for people I know or needed to find for some reason. Sometimes I used it for messenger. But never actually wanted to be in the fakebook club lol!
