Name some advantages you get from growing older. Like why is it worth to wait with suicide and try to hope that the situation might improve.

I think this is a difficult question for me. Obviously minors should not commit suicide. The brain is not fully developed and things can change. I think for many people the life as an adult is completely different to the time at school for example. My life has hugely changed. I am glad I escaped all my bullies though they left huge scars. Maybe I am not the best positive example but I think statistically for many people life can change fundamentally after adolescence. For the positive.

Now it is more difficult for me. I am in my mid-twenties what could improve in the next decades? This is really a hard question for me because I am quite scared about some developments but I will try it.

People say to me they have learned to care less about what other people think of them. I think this could ease some of my pain. I am so obsessed. Some people in my bipolar group have learned how to cope with their illness after some tough time. Many found the right medication after several attempts. It is also true for me. When I was younger I rebeled against medication it was such a wise decision to change my mind on that. My life quality has improved a lot since then. A life without medication with my illness is hellish. I tried it. I tried it for a long time. It was torture. I can live with the side effects. I am still quite annoyed but I have learned to accept them. I quitted the medication with the worst side effects 3 months ago and I am still somewhat stable.

I think the future life quality on earth in general will improve. The internet is for example for me extremely awesome. I am somewhat scared about some developments concerning it but the technology has helped me tremendously. I can't imagine my life consuming TV all the time instead. It would dull my mind completely. I think new technologies and maybe new therapies could improve our lives. Though I am scared they will be too expensive for me.

What are your ideas?

I disagree about future life 'quality' improving. The middle class is slowing becoming non existent. With increased technology, more people will be unemployed(more machines). The cost of living cannot be beat by lower income and middle class like before. Retirement is a dream for future generations.

There are theories that technology will replace huge parts of human work. Probably the riots would get that bad that the states have to act on it. I have listened to some intellectuals on it and they think this will be the time of a (universal) basic income. I am not sure how likely I consider that. It sounds like a beautiful dream maybe too good to be ttrue.

I don't like work. I would have no problem being unemployed if I had a stable somewhat good income.

In all honesty, I think humanity has already failed. What I learned about growing older is the fact that I know that it isn't going to get any better. I had to face that sad reality based on decades worth of the same old shit. Technology should serve the people, but we are still relying on good old slave labour to keep our phoney systems of power afloat. If you ask me humans should eventually go extinct because we haven't achieved much besides greed and wars. Sad but true.

Technology already is replacing jobs. Menial jobs such as cashier's are being replaced by machines and self checkouts.

The problem is advocates of these job losses say get a better education etc but that isn't going to change the employment rate. I'm worried about the millions who won't be able to get jobs. Ubi will have to be created. There just isn't a way around job loss.

As a data analyst, I'm not worried about my employment, but knowing millions will lose jobs through no fault of their own is bad for the economy.

Just life experience. We're constantly learning and changing who we are, 'with age comes wisdom' right?

I like the phrase long in the tooth, you've just seen more, done more learnt more, appreciate more understand more

Still silently believe we should treat age like levels, I'm level 23:hug:

I reckon that a good percentage of the population will be gone by 2030, so unemployment won't be a problem by then. 😜

SQL is just a language for certain types of databases. It stands for Structured Query Language.

Python is multipurpose but popular for what you're learning. In the company I completed my internship they use it for Robotic Process Automation which is pretty cool and basically about replacing humans as well.

I've used that program, it's cool. But I recommend looking around for alternatives, in the IT world there's often a better tool to simplify your work. For example, as a developer I use git, but with a GUI like Git Extensions is considerably faster to use. Basically there's always someone working to make something simpler, even the tools made to make something else simpler!

One advantage to growing older is that one comes close to dying of natural causes.

Jokes aside, since growing older makes one come closer to a natural death, one may cease to worry as much as they did before while being younger, when can lift a heavy burden from one's shoulders.

Personally, I'm not old yet, but being suicidal makes me not care about almost anything at all, which means that there are very few things in this world that worry me. In other words, being suicidal is the closest thing to being indestructible to me. I'm guessing growing old is similar for some people.

I share that same optimism about new technology and therapy that could improve lives. I also fear that they will be expensive, at least when they are first released. Neurotechnology as well as AI could be used to treat mental illness more effectively. New drugs are being developed. Using existing drugs in a psychotherapeutic context (e.g. Ketamine, MDMA, psilocybin, LSD) could be promising too.

If you have kids seeing them grow up and accomplish things in life might be a good reason to stick around. Also, in some stances, the reasons that take us to the edge might not be as daunting and unsolvable as we previously thought, and with age and time, the solutions are presented to us more clearly. And, of course, there's always the comfort that death is inevitable, and it will come to us regardless, so if anything, worry not as now you are closer than you ever were before.

Gaining new experiences is the main benefit of getting older to me. As hard as my life has been, there have been upswings that I'm glad I got to experience. I'm glad I did not CTB when I was a teenager. As I wrap up my 20s, I'm much less optimistic about my future, but there is always the small hope that things will someday be OK again.

As you get older you learn more about yourself and how to take care of you. You learn more about things that can make you happy and things that bring you down. You learn about how to identify the people who give you life and the people who suck life from you. I think there are more older people who are life giving friends because of their life experiences and as you age you are more likely to have things in common with these healthy people. Life doesn't get better in a straight line, it's lots of ups and downs.

Wisdom, definitely. Being able to do things without caring about others opinion, being able to say no and understanding it is others people problem if they get mad about it. Another thing I love about growing older is the relationship I have been developing with my own self. I became more stronger and I enjoy my personality and values a lot.
