I remember hearing about her death back when I was in high school. I still think that any parent who pushes their kid to suicide like that should be charged with murder.
Hearing about Leelah's death made me very angry. Ever since then I have been doing what I can to fight for trans rights. (I'm not in a position to do much, but I suppose every little helps.)

agreed, and the fact that they continued to deadname and misgender her after death... i know my parents aren't that bad but i fear that my deadname will be plastered everywhere when i CTB.

While the mother is certainly taking a stand for her politics, who are we to say she's opposing her child with bad will?
Can a person in their adolescence truly without error decide for themselves if they are born in the wrong body?
Should the first course of action when a child voices these speculations about themselves be an immediate regimen of HRT?
Especially in a world rife with social engineering and programming, where the more prevalent a thing is, the more likely others are to engage in it.
As someone who suffered from gender dysphoria in the past, I could see 10 years ago how absurd the community was becoming:
there is a difference between legitimately having extreme gender dysphoria to the degree that transitioning is necessary for psychological well-being, and then the people with identity crises who call themselves "demi-boys" yet want to be a girl, but want to remove their breasts, or just get on T to look like their favorite anime character or some shit.
They treat it like it's Cyberpunk 2077 and they're just modifying their avatar, not realizing the serious consequences.
So yeah, I think the woman is doing her child a favor by not immediately caving to what could possibly be a whim.
Not immediately caving into? You know they were banning any transition surgery in Montana during which this speech was given. Is the political stand more important than a child's life? Does she have to give a speech like that on the floor? It seems that she wanted show her colleagues that she is tough and that she is willing to risk her child's life to stand by the party line. May be she is afraid that the Republican Party will censure her if she tore the party line. I hope I am wrong in all of this.
You did raise some rational points but you cannot dismiss a teenager's feelings and anguish as idolizing their favourite anime character.

The mother not immediately putting her child on HRT and rushing her into surgery doesn't preclude getting the child mental health help.
I feel like that's what everyone here is missing.
They think that the mother automatically has to be 100% on board, can't have any reservations, and should immediately put them on meds the day after coming out.
You don't know if it's a phase or a legitimate case of gender dysphoria.
No one does.
That's why it has to be analyzed by a psychological professional.

She outright said that she'd rather her kid commit suicide than transition. That's the problem that we're all calling out. She probably wouldn't be willing to bring her kid to a therapist; those types generally don't believe in therapy.

False equivalency since a recent large scale study showed trangenders that had plastic surgery were at a much higher suicide rate than those that didn't have it. So the Montana Legislator decided to "risk" his daughter having a statistical less chance of suicide ... if you follow the science and data ... which I hope you do. And doing it on a minor is just ghoulish sick shit. But yeah be outraged that some legislature in a state you don't live said words you disagree with because the media instructed you to get outraged.
All the studies and research published and peer reviewed in reputable medical and mental health journals like JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, Psychology Today etc. found Gender Affirming Medical Care/Surgeries result in better mental health and less suicides. All the medical organizations oppose banning gender-affirming medical care.
If your sources are not from reputable medical and mental health sources I would not trust them. You have not provide your source. Simply saying recent large scale study does not mean anything.
Sorry no offence meant, I have enough sense to form opinions based on the information I gather from various sources. I don't take instructions from media how should I feel.

State Rep. Kerri Seekins-Crowe said in a floor debate in March that her daughter "was suicidal for three years" and when asked if she'd do anything to save her, her answer was "no."

Strange video clip.
A little bit closer to the end of the article they quote her saying that her daughter isn't even transgender. I don't quite know how to interpret that whether it means she was just using her as an example or that she thinks it's a temporary phase. Who knows. People are strange and people have weird psychological biases in weird places. Not really sure what good point there could've been to that speech.

That is an absolutely horrendous take. What is your source on those stats? It is a very well known fact that gender-affirming interventions drastically decrease suicidal ideation in trans people. Transgender people having an extremely high suicide rate is mostly due to how they are treated because of their identity, be it by their peers, society in general, or their own parents.
Also, they aren't handing out gender-affirming interventions to any minors who ask for them, there is a process to ensure that they know what the procedures entail. This is much more vetted compared for cosmetic procedures such as BAs which do not even require any visits to a therapist or someone in their line of work. If I was able to obtain gender-affirming treatments when I was a minor, then I wouldn't be dying the next month like I am planning now.

People can be certain about their own identities at a very young age, I wished that I was born as a girl as far as I can remember and I became suicidal at 13 over it. There is also a process to go through prior to obtaining gender-affirming treatments such as seeing a gender therapist and obtaining referral letters. Right-wing nutjobs love to pretend that anyone can waltz into a pharmacy and get transition meds, spouting disinformation is a known pastime of theirs.

This is why I think two contradicting realities can be true simultaneously.
There are sources that say puberty blockers aren't reversible, and there have been testimonies from transgender people who do say that they were prescribed HRT right off the bat.

Regardles of whatever, you should take your shit elsewhere. It's fatiguing that every single post about transphobia gets swarmed by people posting whataboutism. This thread is a place for people to comisserate about how much transphobia sucks.
The fact of the matter is that there is a disproportionately large number of trans people on this site, and we're sick of people treating our genuine fears and problems as if they're invalid. It happens whenever a trans person posts anything trans-related.

How about we keep ourselves out of people's business and let them decide what they want for themselves? Nobody is transitioning minors against their will, and you shouldn't pretend that isolated cases reflect the whole reality. They gain the ability to make medical decisions for themselves at 14, let them exert it. First puberty is much more irreversible than puberty blockers can be (there is nothing irreversible about them except for time lost), and it would be the end of me so I think that it is a pretty serious effect.

Absolutely agree. Doctors are conning parents when they present this as a choice between a living son or a dead daughter (if the patient is female). The largest study done on sex-reassignment surgery (originally released in 2019, but corrected in 2020) showed that the procedure did not provide the promised mental health benefits and in fact, found that transitioners experienced higher anxiety. This shouldn't be a surprise. All the hormones and plastic surgery in the world cannot turn a boy into a girl or a girl into a boy. People can call me their favorite pejorative for saying it, but it's true. And we've known it to be true since the beginning of human history.
