Sorry for writing so directly, also for anything I say that may offend others who see this.
Recently I do masturbation much more often than ever. I actually sense no pleasure or something when doing so, it's like I'm doing it just for doing it, literally. Sometimes I think to myself that if there were not masturbation then I would have nothing to live for in this world. Then the thought leads to a fact, that I'm entirely a good-for-nothing who cannot live without such an unforgivable thing. I feel so helpless and empty inside. (Though I don't believe in any religion and I myself don't really feel guilty about doing this)
Don't know how to get rid of this annoying thought, or how to find other things that are more meaningful in life to keep living on for. Any help/ideas? And sorry again for writing this. Thanks for reading too.

There is nothing wrong with masturbating and this is something that I have done since a decade ago on and off and you don't need to feel ashamed and bad for that either. I remember the last two guys I was dating talked about masturbating and even when I was doing my degree I had a few friends there who talked about having toys etc to pleasure themselves and at the time I had no experience or whatsoever. Sex or masturbating are natural and with sex that's how we all came into existence. No need to be embarrassed or feel bad about it.

I hope you don't feel bad for doing it and it's a natural thing to do.

All the best with whatever you decide to do OP.

I don't see it as shameful. Most people do it, they just keep it hush hush. I have the same problem honestly. It's an odd coping skill of mine. I know a TON of people who do it, some even for the same reasons, so don't feel ashamed. I hope you stop feeling shameful as weird as it may seem, it's completely natural. I wish you the best no matter what you wanna do!!

Sometimes there's nothing else, huh? And for pain? I've done it for toothaches, and sometimes it works, or just helps me sleep through them. Sometimes it doesn't, but it was worth the try!

Yeah, it's not the least shameful! You can do it when alone, or in relationships, whatevs. Many couples do it on whatsapp when apart or long-distance

I sometimes do it just to think more deeply about social things; it can open a door into unconscious thought

Hell, even if I'm learning from porn to spring new ideas on someone, guess what I'm doing as I watch! Shaaaaaameful of me

My body, I can do wtf I want. Here on sasu, I talk about shooting myself in the head with a shotgun; what's worse?

The only part that is sad is if one has to resort to it because one is unable to find fulfilling human relationships. I'm guessing for some people porn has made them less able to form and maintain romantic connections.

To be honest I do it for the few (mili)seconds of not feeling completely and utterly miserable. It's the only time that I don't feel miserable.

I think you have a stricter view on masturbation than most. As others said it's natural, everyone does it and nobody needs anyone's permission or forgiveness for it (unless you happen to be Louis CK 😆).

As for finding something more meaningful, that's really subjective (more meaningful to whom? You owe the world very little if anything so you shouldn't spend time doing things that are meaningful to anyone other than yourself).

You could maybe volunteer at an animal rescue/shelter (I am a huge advocate of pet therapy, it's just so relaxing and fills my heart with joy).

If I could I would spend every day just masturbating. That would be absolutely fantastic. (I sometimes prefer it to sex especially when I don't really crave any company).

Masturbation is where it's at. The more suicidal I get, the more I need to escape. Press the button and happy chemical go brrrr. Then it's over and lucidity returns.

I'm a bit jealous, because I'm too depressed to get turned on. Also, since losing my job & apartment and moving to my family's house, I'm not comfortable where I'm living at all.

I don't think Masturbation itself is a bad thing but I do believe that overdoing it can affect people bad my bestfriend does have this issue since a few years
I personally cannot Masturbate because as soon as I do it even just for a second I start crying immediately so the only time I do it is before harming myself so I feel even more like harming myself 🤡
I guess my advice would be just do it if u really it helps you in certain situations or for the joy or whatever but don't do it too often for "no reason " I guess(?)

I Masturbate as a form of stress relief and to take my mind off of things. It's one of the few coping mechanisms I have. So I don't think there's anything wrong with you also partaking in it yourself OP.

Masturbation is natural & can be a healthy habit, & honestly - since in the comments everyone is speaking pretty openly - it's great for stress relief. Overdoing it can cause issues, especially if you watch too much porn. Porn addiction is real & I wish people spoke more openly on the damage it causes to people. I wish there were more resources for people dealing with it as well, & less shame around it. The internet made it a really huge issue, especially amongst my peers. Though that is a whole other convo.

-

I didn't have sex until I got with my current partner when I turned about 19. I have a lot of sexual trauma - masturbation kinda helped me? I was a late bloomer with it, but it helped me become more comfortable with my body, & eventually, helped me cope better with my sexual trauma + really not like being touched at all, even hugs.

For some I understand how it can trigger one's sexual trauma - I have certain areas where I do not like being touched for that reason - so I understand. I'll say this though, for anyone struggling with it, I recommend slowly easing yourself into learning your body, it helped me a lot. Toys help too, especially if you're still learning about you're own body - it makes it a lot simpler.

I don't think someone should feel ashamed about self-pleasure, especially when it's how you're coping. I use it to cope sometimes - it can give you a little moment of clarity after as well. I just think it's important to not let it become something you depend on, or something you become addicted to.

I find the wave of shame afterwards makes it kind of suck as a method of escapism. Might just be due to porn addiction though. If you're just doing it to normal stuff and/or your imagination I figure it'd be a better cope.

Well I've stopped masturbating because my pelvic wall cramps really painfully for a minute after I orgasm, it's strange but hey-ho…
