Recreational weed is legal in my state, and I've been a functional, full-time employed pothead for about a year and a half now. I don't have any problems when I'm high. I just consider it to be a shortcut to a fun weekend alone. Since it's legal, I don't really feel the need to hoard, use huge amounts, or use it at any time other than weekends or long afternoons. I usually just take a 25 mg edible. I will occasionally take a week or a month off. I've noticed that almost like clockwork 3 to 5 days after I stop that I get suicidal thoughts. I've apparently expressed suicidal thoughts since I was a preschooler according to my parents (and they've had thoughts and one childhood attempt) of their own as well, but being off of weed for a few days makes the thoughts much stronger. To wit, it was in such a state that I found this forum.

In case it's relevant, I haven't had a drop of alcohol in almost 8 years (the men in my family aren't capable of consuming it responsibly.) Just weed. Does anyone else have similar issues with casual weed use?

I've been a daily user for almost 2 years now and I take it to cope with chronic migraines/nausea. I used to take breaks before my illnesses started/got worse, and the main feature I remember on my tolerance breaks was being irritable, with reduced pleasure for enjoying things. I can see how this could tie into increased suicidal ideation. I hope you can find some answers.

I didn't smoke much long ago

Vitamin deficiencies can cause suicidal urges. If your family crave alcohol in a bad way... I'd start eith b vitamins. But c, magnesium, d... Can hurt when not enough.

Lacking b vitamins made me crave blood like a vampire as a teen. Real cravings. I was anorexic, I craved to eat anything that moved...

Weed can cause psychosis... Lack of b too.

I suffer too, I'd rather break a leg than gave nausea. I'm being poisonned by something... Acid cleaner... I tried to neutralize with bicarbonate... Got nausea & massive head aches.

I'd try to eat greens & meat... No grains, sugar, stimulants... To eliminate shit & see how it goes

Thanks for the advice, but I'm vegan and have zero intention of changing my diet. Hope you found something that works for you.

I met a vegan who only ate chips and never ate greens. It was odd. I hope you eat a more vegan diet.

How do you get B vitamins, especially B12? I gave up because I couldn't find it. I have anemia. It gets bad.

I take a supplement for B12/D3, but I also don't have anemia. Everyone's body is different. My labs come back fine.

I was a pothead all through high school and into my mid-twenties. I (we) smoked a lot of pot and it was really cheap back then, like $30 - $40 an ounce. Sometimes "special" weed would come around and it was a bit more. We smoked it like Cheech and Chong, high from morning to night, never not high. We even invented and fabricated devices to smoke it better, including "The Mask". I decided to quit and did just that. I had no issues quitting. I can only speak for myself, obviously, but I had no suicidal inclinations after quitting. No withdrawals, no cravings. Just decided to quit and that was it. I haven't smoke any since and that's been over 30 years now.

In an opposing vein, I use my THC gummies, just about every day to keep my sanity. But like a boss of mine said, "Whatever works!"

Yes I do have problems with withdrawal if I come off weed. Headaches too, depression, insomnia. Personally I think weed is the worst one to try to come off because it's stays in body so long. Yes I get suicidal ideation, I can't remember if it comes on after I've stopped for some days. I've only tried to quit a few times. It's the hardest one for me to quit.

I guess everyone's systems are different. Quitting it had absolutely nothing to do with my wanting to ctb now. It's been way too long to blame it on that. Only life holds that responsibility.

16 days off weed as of today. The American desert I live in is finally cooling down, so I've been going for 30 minute walks outside, counting calories, and eating apples every day. Had my first fully enjoyable weekend a few days ago.

Maybe something like this will work for someone else here, maybe not. Try it, though. I imagine some of us have become so accustomed to some bad habits that we forget that sometimes letting our body take care of things on its own works better than we may expect. Diet, sleep, exercise. Best wishes from here!
