I've never considered whether a method was manly or not, so much as what do I have access to &what'll hurt less.

Reminds me of an old 4chan post. I forget the details but it involved some form of decapitation while your hands were superglued to your head, making it appear like you just ripped your head off.

Death is death, the ultimate equalizer. A gunshot isn't more likely to kill a man than it is a woman. Laying down and drinking N isn't more likely to kill a female than a male. No one is going to say "Charlie poisoned himself, what a girly way to die, should have manned up and shot himself. "
You make a good point, whoever discovers the dead body probably wouldnt call it any more or less of a coward act regardless of gender.
I think theres less painful and more painful, quicker and longer, sloppy and messy, peaceful and disturbing, chancy and foolproof etc.
I personally base my decision on least painful, quickest, less messy, peaceful and as foolproof as possible.

I think manly and feminine methods come from different circumstances the genders find themselves in, rather than preference. Women are more likely to seek help for depression, thus getting access to prescription drugs while most police officers and soldiers are men (access to weapons). Men are also more present in shooting clubs, so they also have access to an effective method. Im also only guessing, but I think its safe to assume that the preferred method for doctors for example is anastethics, regardless of gender, since they have easy access and the required knowledge.

"Neutral" methods such as hanging are similarily popular with both genders since their circumstances deny them other methods.

Honestly I try to stay away from those sexist "norms" and "rules" I don't think there is such a thing as manly or womanly way of ctb. Suicide is suicide, death is death, pain is pain, bravery is bravery, those things don't have sex.

I think in a place like this with all the other issues going on we can avoid sexism and trying to genderise methods.
