Method Making your own SN - is it possible?

With the following method:

Buy some S NitrAte, mix it with some active charcoal in a metallic pot, and heat the mixture with an heat source beneath the metallic pod.

As soon as the mixture starts to burn, place the pod quickly into cold water (the mixture should not come in contact with the water), and let the mixture cool down.

What should be left is the desired SN, not the other mentioned in the beginnig.

Could this work out?
