We all knew what love was once
A nobler, envied, sweeter love
Until we didn't want what love brings us, envy
And we traipsed our lovers hearts across the world like a dusky moon shading down from a dully lit sky
In those first moments they are like no other
And the cruel world makes it disappear
Until some of us are blind but for the love we knew and cherished
And at times, for those who choose to feel envy, instead of love
With shallow indifference she sighs with envy
With solemn arrogance he burns his eye
To see God through one eye
And not the devil out the other is to fear envy, and never fear love
