  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

My friend told me that sometimes people find message boards and make up entire identities with elaborate backstories so they can "make friends" with other identities on the internet; nothing they say they did, are doing now, or will do in the future is true.

He's a really cynical person. What he's saying isn't true, is it?

It even has it's own term now - Pseudocide

I'm just going to leave these here with a comment that by its nature a lot of the members of this board are vulnerable and so naturally the more ill-willed will try their luck for shits and giggles- it's like blood in the water to sharks and then of course there's those who have other reasons.

Unless you knew them directly. I don't think there is a way to know for 100%. But assuming they don't come back on within the next day or 2 to tell us things didn't work. I think it's safe to say they are gone.
The closest thing I can say to figuring it out is by looking at the obituary, but that is a pain to find in itself. Keep in mind, no newspaper is going to say suicide. If you do find it, then please link it.

I didn't know soup, but I'm sad that someone was so unhappy with their life that they kill themselves. I just hope it was painless, and I hope they are happy on the other side.
How an earth people find Obits and then are also able to link them to here, I"ll never know. Guess u needed to have had a lot more pm contact.

I'm not sure if it would apply to a place like this, but when I was going through some cyber security classes for a prior degree. One of the things that was brought up is a big reason people do that or catfish is to fill some social need. Like they feel their real life is a failure, not fun, or they have a hard time talking to others. And they make up or take someones identity. The problem comes in when it starts influencing others or messing with their personal life. Like the obvious in cat fishing for example.
In this case I think it would be more of instead of a person making up a wonderful life. It would be someone ending their life, but making this up because for whatever reason in RL they can't/won't. This feeling a self desire need without actually doing anything.

But as you pointed out, there is other reasons.

In this case, I don't think this person is faking it. There is a number of people who seem to talk to the user deeply.

Any case, there is a saying that was said in my classes. "Distrust, verify, and stay suspicious". It means distrust what is being said, verify it to be true, and note that in the future it can easily become a false statement even if it is true now.

Unlikely soup was faking - as someone else talked on this thread about interacting in person with her. That'd be 2 fakes. The other one has been here long time so would've been found out, banned and so forth?
Anyway, I won't believe I'm dead until I see my death certificate.

lmao look up how easy it is to be declared dead in most places. In fact, that is one thing that scares the shit out of me. Like if you're OK with it. Look at the following video

I'm actually looking at seeing if I can put in my will when I make one to be cremated. But something I am wondering is if I am mispronounced dead. How quickly will it take me.

This was well-written; the description reminds me of myself.
