I can agree with that if someone has some type of social anxiety disorder. For most, though, actual real-life connections are a necessary part of thriving in life.

Yes, each thing has its joys and disappointments. However, I also feel that just being on the "sidelines" or alone does not mean that you are "completely alone"- that is "for better and for worse".

Well I am completely alone. I'm alone 24/7/365. Not sure what you mean by "for better or for worse". I have no one to talk to irl. One of the main reasons I'm leaving.

I am referring to religious and mystical things. They have offered a lot of guidance and support in "lonely and hard times" - it feels good to notice in "difficult times" that I have not been forgotten. I myself have lived almost my entire adult life alone "without friends", and now I when I'm older I just "don't get it" (I think it just means to be "friendly with someone")... Anyway, it would be good if you could connect with someone (or something) regulary, because being alone can be hard and difficult sometimes. We should kinda look out for each other.

I see. I'm not at all mystical, nor religious, and being alone in my thoughts certainly doesn't help me to "connect" with anything of a greater significance. At this stage I'm done connecting. I've had my entire family die over the past 6 years, which is what has left me utterly alone. There's no going forward from this and I don't have the energy, or drive, to make connections even if it were desireable. I don't have a place in this world any longer, and the sooner I exit, the better it will be for me, as I don't want to go insane from the isolation that has been my life the past 3 1/2 years. There's just nothing I want from this world anymore.

Unfortunately people statistically care about physical appearance much more than other traits despite what they might say, but if nothing else you can know you have some kind of value.

I think lots of people come to the view at some stage that life would have been a lot easier if only they were better looking.
This is at odds with the platitudes about beauty that we are repeatably told when young.
