Movie recommendation.

And also: what is the most humane way to kill a lobster?

I would really love a steamed Maine lobster with drawn butter and lemon before I go.

Don't know of any humane way to boil a lobster, it's sad to do it, but I hear they sure do taste gooooood!

I'm trying to think. Don't people just put the lobster on ice after catching it for transport and it dies then, then they just chuck it in a pot of boiling water to cook it?

No a lobster must be alive when you cook it, similar to all sea crustaceans like mussels and clams. They spoil upon dying.

I thought the chefs stick them in the freezer first to fall unconscious.

Wait, wouldn't putting them on ice just slow all their vitals to the point they freeze but aren't actually dead?

Kinda like in movies how a person freezes then is heated back up and lives again

Usually lobsters are caught and kept in water tanks, not on ice like clams or mussels or oysters.

Well from what I understand the jury is out as to whether lobsters even feel pain, with quite a few articles giving conflicting answers. I think it's likely they have a stripped down nervous system that processes pain more simply. I never liked the taste of lobster all that much myself, and I have a hard time wrangling with the shell and all that.

Movie recommendation? I really enjoyed the movie Antichrist with Charlotte Gainsbourg recently, but it might put you off your food if your timing's a little off, lol.

A recent scientific report from Norway has added fuel to this long-simmering debate. The study, funded by the Norwegian government, finds that animals like lobsters have nervous systems that are too simple to process what we call "pain."

Though, a machine has been invented to stun them before boiling to be more humane.

Again, I wish I was a lobster!

The Lobster is the name of the movie. It's exquisitely depressing if your mood is too joyful.

The reason why they ice them is to depress their nervous system. They're not very clawy or jumpy at you when you pick them up from the ice chest. Supposedly, when you drop them into boiling water, the shock will kill them in a second. You'll know if any of them struggled is when the claw detaches from the body. If not, they died peacefully.

That kind of made me sad, I didn't know they had to be boiled alive. Sounds terrible. I'm not a vegan but I try not to think about what the animals go through b4 we eat them.

They don't have a nervous system complex enough to feel pain or even experience it the way a mammal would.
There's convincing evidence that a conscious experience of the world can only exist in mammals and birds.

Please play this and dance with the lobster before cooking it. Might make it feel better.
