watching this tv series shameless very belated. how it portrays what alcoholism does is truly amazing. the series addresses it in such a sober way it's so real. funny, i just saw myself in that lead character gallegar. the way he talks, behaves, thinks..., it's almost like me n the millions of alcoholics out there. a concerned guy once told me how it ends. that series captures it so clearly. funny it took a tv show to learn. aha. but still drinking as i think this over.

I think the two series I learned the most from are 24 and Punisher. Two simple lessons 1) there are no peaceful solutions to violent problems and 2) no one is going to fix your problems for you.

In other words - meet force with force, and don't rely on anyone (or don't expect help/support).

still in season 2. but whatever you say it's true. alcoholism sucks you into to problems which can only be violently solved, and deep into unsolvable problems..., aha, which can only be solved by N, SN, rope, etc..., or you decide to enjoy the unending drama.

I've learned from House MD that I should never hide any embarrassing symptoms when I go to the doctor (I mean regular doctor, not psych) because in the series the reason the patients get misdiagnosed is almost always the fact that the patients wanted to hide something

Which one? The US one with William H. Macy, or the original UK one with David Threlfall?

That is a legitimate lesson. Good one.

Good point, I watched the US one.
