I am 58 years old. Time caught up with me during the pandemic. The weight gain really did me in physically and mentally. I've always been either in a state of anxiety or depression, but I plugged on and worked. Now I feel like I have the added burden of physical problems. Does anyone know about how hard it is to find a social worker or to get ss disability at my age? I'd gladly just go to sleep and not wake up bit from what I've read, that isn't so easy.

The easiest fastest way to receive assistance is to go to a Community Mental Health Center. There you will receive a Case Worker, a Psychiatrist and you may qualify for additional programs. The Case Worker will aid you in filling out forms for SS as well other programs to aid you.
You are worth seeking support. As above - there are community based social services that can help. I'm not at all advocating religion but associated catholic charities has many mental health and community based social services that are free or sliding scale. They don't preach - they're staffed by licensed social workers and psychiatrists.

I know from living nearly as long as you (56) that most people applying get turned down the first time when they apply. Then you need to file an appeal ,which is best done with a disability lawyer, who will take a percentage of the award, should it get approved, which will be paid retroactively to when you first applied. You definitely need to get your ducks in a row, so to speak, with doctor notes and such, proving you are unable to work. It won't happen overnight. It may take a couple years possibly. The key is to stick with it and acquire the necessary support documents. The disability appeal attorney can guide you with what has to be done.
