Landlord Etiquette

Probably a good chance I won't commit suicide in my apartment. Should i let my landlord know that I will be going away and let the police notify him i committed suicide? Thinking I will remove all of my stuff (dumpsters, second hand shops, etc.).

Kinda excited! This is becoming a reality. Just hoping I can prepay an extra month or two of rent for his troubles.

Why would you want to do that? You paid their mortgage, operating expenses, property taxes, and gave them a profit also. I disagree that you need to worry about your landlord. And you should not be expecting to die. If you die you will have no problems to deal with. If you survive you will have some problems to deal with, many more if you throw all your stuff away, etc.

idk i pay rent in advance anyway, so i would do it not to raise suspicion in a way, also to maybe negate possible trauma. i feel that if i survive, i'll just try again (though i am underestimating that i may not want to try again right away).

I may keep some things then. Thanks for the comment! The distinction between "hoping to die" and "expecting to die" is important.

It all depends, your landlord will become aware of it eventually, but letting him/her be informed by police and having an empty apartment might make it easier for them. If you leave things then they may be obligated to hold onto them for your family (probably the same process for an eviction) and would do them the favor of being able to rent it out again if it's clear/cleaned, and they know you are gone. Depends on city, county laws and policies on how long they might be on the hook for an empty apartment.

Getting rid of stuff is classic suicidal behavior. I have done it and have also seen other people getting rid of their stuff, people setting multiple red flags.

True, but if he lives alone might not be many people to notice?

Also there's a ton of explainable reasons to get rid of a lot of your things, the whole marie kondo minimalist movement that's been popular, the rise of down-sized living/possessions, depends who's asking on the level of detail provided.

I have too much stuff anyway, and yes, I am alone which means no one would notice.

got rid of most of my stuff and left just enough to live on , 95% of my clothes , bedroom tvs , loft junk , fish tank , puffe Hi-fi`s ,curtains, kitchen stuff , tools , books , pc, xbox ,paper work , photos etc etc and , I`m leaving house to my younger brother so it will be easy to sell as i`ve done all the little jobs that needed doing and decorated throughout too

Just put your landlord in your suicide note with their numbe so they xan rent it out asap. No need to pay extra

Wow it's nice if you to think about your landlord. Mine is a greedy bastard who won't evict the people living above me even though they are making constant noise and I've been compaining for two years. He's so cheap. As long as the money keeps pouring in even though he married a rich woman and one empty apartment out of the 30 he owns wouldn't mean anything. I could care less. I would actually love it if my body started to decompose and stink the whole building up. Screw him. He's the last thing on my mind.

They have your deposit and certain types of insurance so in the UK they are financially covered well.

the dog in the photo and my boxer both died of cancer at the end of last year and my frenchie will go to my ex as she has 3 already and they often visit my Baby Agnes (i never named her lol )

Totally get that, my relationship with him after this post coincidentally soured. End of the day though my dad's name is also on the lease and I don't care for my parents finding out i committed suicide. So if I clear things up with the landlord, things work out a bit better for everyone.
