Just paid ahead for cremation

Today I set up a prepaid contract with a local funeral home for cremation services, including dividing my ashes and mailing an urn to each of my parents. Now I'm just waiting on the right day, which I expect will come in the next couple of weeks. I told myself I wouldn't ruin anybody's Xmas. And I have at least a month if not more like 6 months before my trial, so there's bound to be a good day to die between now and then. I want a nice cool day since we don't get many of those. I already wrote the main letters to the main loved ones. I'll write a shorter note to more casual friends. Already addressed envelopes and stamps. I expect life to feel a little different between now and then, but I don't know what kind of different. Guess we'll see.

I was looking into prepaying my cremation and funeral expenses. It not only eliminates the financial burden on family, it also takes some of the burden of decision making off their shoulders. It was very hard for me to contemplate those things, it makes the reality of death really sink in to be evaluating different funeral homes and thinking about the kind of services your loved ones would want. If you can bring yourself to do it, I think it's generally a good thing to for your family.

In the end I couldn't do it, partly because not enough time, and mostly because I just couldn't stomach it. I decided to transfer my wife money right before I CTB instead. I'll also leave a document with suggestions for the funeral home and what to do with my remains.

Mailing your ashes seems rather cold... Can I ask your age?

I didn't know this was a thing. Do you have to be a certain age, do they get suspicious if a younger person requests this?

Even non suicidal people will prepay their burial or cremation and service.
Death is a natural thing that comes for all of us sooner or later. It's good to be prepared so loved ones aren't overwhelmed. I want to prepay mine but I've been too depressed to get put of bed. I hope your wife will honor your wishes if you decide to go.

What's your method for CTB?

Inert gas and turkey bag. I read the handbook and think I've got it down. I hate how sad my family will surely be, but not as sad as I'd be if I stay. Thanks for asking. I wanted to use the salt, but it's too hard to get.

My family lives in a different state a day's drive away. They'll get a letter from me before they get the ashes, and probably get the news before they get the letter. I'd much rather have them in the conversation so we could have a sense of togetherness and closure, but I just don't think that's feasible in the USA at this time.
I'm thinking I'll send the remains to my brother, who will deliver them to my parents if/when they are ready.

Well I thought they might live closer than that, but I get it since they don't. Think them picking it up from your brother is a good idea. I just imagine recieving ashes in the mail will break your parents is all.
As far as your trial, I've had breaking the law incidents in my family. There's no wrong deed you could've done that would justify your suicide to your family. I know it can seem like your life is completely over because of it, but if you can just hang on, you'll see that it's not.
