Hi all,

Anyone really struggling in the UK with career/job satisfaction and finding something more tolerable?

I'm 37 and I've been working cusomer service roles in call centres for the past 15 years and I'm desperate to find something else to do.

I have a degree and masters in a field which doesn't suit my nature. I studied law and my plethora of mental health issues don't even allow me to get beyond assessments, let alone an interview.

My issue is now that the job market seems so bleak here with freezes on recruitment across all sectors that even if I had a clear direction, there's just not much going on.

Anyone in the same boat?

Totally understand.
I'm now over 50, UK. Work, which became all short term contract based, dried up. Now can't get a job in the industry I've been in for nearly 30 years (graduate, specialised tech industry). Now I can't even get an interview for minimum wage retail jobs in a supermarket. And now AI destroying jobs all over the place. It's f*ked for sure.

Sorry to read that. That just makes me very anxious about quitting this dead-end job. Knowing that we'd likely not even get retail jobs due to over-saturated market and possible age discrimination make me wonder what the future holds.

Is one of the main reason I'm here :'(

Only you can decide what is right for you, but if it was me I'd stick at the dead end job and keep looking for something else. I'd die (no pun intended) for a dead end job right now. Maybe arrange a long break (unpaid sabbatical type thing) if that's possible, to recharge, keep the door open.
