Job interview on monday

I have a really important job interview on Monday. Any tips? This is a job I MUST land. There's no error margin here, I NEED to land it, at whatever cost. It's THE job, THE position that would change everything.

I really don't know what I'm going to do if I don't get it, I'm studying like crazy and I'm going to do so for the whole weekend.

Do all the research you can about the company to see what they value.
Think about what you can contribute to the company and explain that to them. Also have questions ready for the interviewer too.

First off... congrats on the interview! They want an interview with you and that alone says a lot about their interest to have you working for and with them.

I'm no professional interviewer or interviewee but I would say try your best not to get tensed up. Try and keep relaxed and (I know it's an interview) keep engaged. Eye contact is a must but let your genuine personality shine through as well. You still have some time to prepare so if you could, I'd say to search some of the most common questions that would be asked at an interview, write those questions down, and roughly write out a response that you would give to the person hiring. Try to lightly memorize and not study your answers. When it comes down to it, you really want to have a normal conversation and not get stuck when responding if you didn't remember something in particular that you wrote.

My tips FWIW...
Look online for standard interview questions and practice answering them honestly in a way that paints you in a good light.
Be honest with them. There are questions you will end up answering negatively, if you can learn how to answer that shows you could turn that negative into a positive, they should appreciate that. Everyone fucks up, if you have a time where something went wrong and you used it as a motivator to change and learn, that's more genuine than someone who comes across as flawless. Don't bullshit. If you don't know the answer, say you don't know and move on quickly, you don't have to be perfect. A good attitude is often more important than relevant experience.
Do your research on the company and their mission statement and align yours with theirs, if you want to work there.
Figure out questions you want to ask them by doing your research. Watch their body language for bullshitting as they answer to determine if you actually want the job.

Congratulations. Sounds like you are working hard to prepare. Definitely agree with others advising to take some time to rest and calm yourself. Once when I was in a similar situation, an interviewer made fun of me for sounding desperate Best of luck.

Ironically I think you need to seem like it doesn't matter to you if you don't get it, the more desperate you come across the more they'll resist.

There's a really amazing sales trainer on youtube who talks about this called benjamin dennehy - the UKs most hated sales trainer (he seems like a really nice bloke, he's from NZ).

I know looking at a sales thing might seem odd if you're not going for a sales job, but you are really selling - yourself.

Take a look at some of his stuff and some of the interviews he's done with people like Mike Winnett.

Honestly I know this sounds mad, but just have a look and think about how relaxed he is and how successful he is in those calls he makes.

It's all about making them realise how you're going to solve their problems.

Thank you all for your tips, I just saw on a website the competition and holy shit they're all more prepared than me. I have a managers recommendation so I hope that will work. I literally feel like begging for they job but that ain't good sport. I'm just gonna do my best and I hope that'll do the trick. I need a fucking miracle.

I hope it goes well. I'm interviewing these days too. It's the worst thing to go through, especially for people already finding life hard enough.

A few tips I can give, FWIW:

• Get enough sleep so you can focus
• Don't stick to tightly to anything you're studying. Be ready for surprise questions so you don't have to stick to a script.
• The most annoying trend right now are scenario questions (name a time when, how would you deal with...). When you get one like this, don't try to find an exact example. They won't know if it's real or not. Just play a hypothetical scene in your head and answer the way you would handle if it were real
• Another trend is asking "what attracted you to this position/company." Answer it so they can see that you'll be a good representative of the "brand"
• Have a few answers ready about "where you'll see yourself in five years" - personally and professionally
• Have a question or two ready to ask - about the company or the job. You interview them for a moment
• Know that there's probably some new trend out there (that someone found on LinkedIn probably) and that you can't be ready for everything. Put your communication skills on display and try to relate to them like you've been working with them for months - they want to hire someone who can collaborate and get along well with colleagues
• Get some sleep this weekend!!

Honestly watch the videos, he's exactly right. I worked in sales and it's true 99% of the battle is in your own head, you go into a meeting thinking they have all the power and they are big and you're small, they have what you want (money to buy, the job you want) and you feel like it's a battle to get them to give that to you.

People buy with emotions and justify with logic, so what he does is get them into an emotional state by getting them talking about their problems, then getting them to give examples of those problems, so they're thinking about those problems - then explains how he has the solution.

It's boring explaining it in words, if you watch what he does - everything he says is for a reason, and it's kind of like an act.

He is a literal genius when it comes to getting what you want from a meeting. All of your competition will go in and talk about themselves, I do this, I do that, this experience, that experience, blah blah, all the same.

If you answer their questions with a question (like he shows you) to get them talking about them and their problems you'll walk it.

You'll definitely feel more relaxed because you'll have a plan and know where you're going to take the conversation.

Here's another important one -
Do your research on which local department they are going to place you in and your specific post. If you can show them you have working knowledge specific to that company's post, it will give you a massive advantage over others. The best way to do this is call someone you know from that company. Don't call a big name(unless you personally know him). Try an intern or some guy from your college who has just been placed there. Ask him what are the tasks that the post I am applying for performs. Ask him to be specific and not vague. Then communicate to the interviewer you know what the tasks are and how you are competent for it . Employers love the fact that they can just put you at work quickly , without teaching you much. They also get impressed because you have taken effort to know about your specific position before applying.

It went well, one of the interviewers was a college acquaintance. The interview was easy, though one of the ladies was very serious and refused to give me any feedback. I don't know I didn't get a good feeling from her, but hopefully I land the job. They'll let me know in two weeks minimum. I'm so nervous lol. Ok what's done it's done. I hear what you say about How important the job is, but the first rule of job interviews seems to be If you really really want the job very very very intensively it can make you too nervous

The best thing to do is probably take a step back from it. Think of the advantages and disadvantages of getting the job. Go in there with an open mind not feeling too desperate

If she is just a casual acquaintance, you're right, she most likely doesn't remember, unless you were notorious for doing something really outrageous while on drugs in college. Most people don't remember anything substantial about their classmates from school and college, if they don't keep in touch, so you probably have nothing to worry about on that front.

I was reading online about the signs of a successful interview and I... didn't think I had that many. A part of me thinks I'm not going to get it. I don't know what to do, I have nothing lined up. Mistakes are piling up, idk. My mom is so crazy, she always been a little bit bonkers, and I was sad about not getting the job and she screamed at me about how I should be doing something with my life and that I'm killing her. It's always the same with her. I need to get out of the house but HOW without a job?

Oh, I'm sorry it wasn't a good day. I wouldn't put too much faith into what you're reading online, though. I don't know what job you interviewed for, but I went through the hiring process recently as well, and upon a closer look I realized that most articles on the Internet are written with someone interviewing for a serious position in management in mind, while for most jobs things are actually not all that scary and serious.

Well, even if you don't get this one job you interviewed for, it doesn't mean you can't get any job, right?

Your mum sounds slightly like me, a bit bonkers and over anxious with her kids. I have that reaction to my 19 year old sometimes but manage to keep it in my head. It's all to do with the anxiety and depression. I'd be blaming myself thinking 'if I'd done a better job as a parent she would have got the job, I've failed her so much, it's my fault and I hate myself for it'.
Not sure if that's any help, just to say those are her issues not yours.
During our particularly bad patch she'd also describe me as crazy so maybe I didn't keep all of it in my head....
